Mmmm sick grooves for people who like ambient nonsense and sound design. Love it.
Thanks for the friendly reminder that Nicolas Jaar is an artist I need to keep up with.

Not sure if he is actually a dormant member of this community as I know he’s an Octatrack user, but this is absolutely storming from Feend circa 2012:

Somebody whose work I always hugely appreciate but there is never enough of it.

Edit: paging @Feend - more music please!

Thanks for echo. Bought it and listened today on my way to work. Brilliant! Probably will like it more than the debut. Even seen them live at that time…
Funny thing: I discovered for myself independently Darkside, few years later Against All Logic and then last year NicolĆ”s Jaar (Cenizas). And quite recently I learned that all of that is Jaar’s records. For me definitely one of most interesting contemporary musicians.

Metal doesn’t get better than this.

Amen brother. Florida death metal, Norwegian black metal and Earache stuff were the epitome of metal to me. Well, Maryland doom and the whole NOLA sludge scene as well. I do still check out new death metal, but otherwise metal is kind of in a rut now. Just repeating old sounds, and whoever does it best wins. Not really that interesting.

Pretty much the same for me, although I mostly just listen to my old favourites. I’m that old, tired guy now that I once thought I’d never become. But that’s okay, like today when I put Altars of Madness in the CD player after maybe a 4-6 month break. Still fucking slays!

Isn’t it funny how surprised every generation is when they get old & tired?

Yeah, it’s funny. Except when you’re THAT generation. :grinning: Not that I actively search for new metal bands nowadays but like you said it’s just not very interesting these days (at least for the most part).

And 9 times out of 10 when someone tells you to go check ā€this great new metal bandā€, it’s the wrong kind of metal. Me saying that is yet another sign of me getting old.

Totally. Or, when you find something you could like, it’s a pastiche of some older band or style. I mean I like a good pastiche, which is good since both in (noise) rock and metal it’s all that is available now. But when I want thought provoking music I listen to experimental electronic music, synths or noise.

@korpinen @ghostbuddy I’ve listened to tons of old metal/death metal lately, loads of earache, relapse records, plenty of Godflesh etc. Hardly any electronic music actually.
I keep meaning to ask other people who are into it what the current scene is like, I don’t know anything past about 1996/7!
Not so great then I guess…
