Really appreciate this thread as I didn’t grow up listening to electronic genres either and so missed a lot. One thing I’m lacking, but always enjoy knowing is the context surrounding the works which make them important. I know we have the documentaries thread (maybe there are others) but if anyone has that knowledge to drop or link to, this could be an awesome resource

Jesus Christ, that’s a thing I didn’t expect to see or hear again. They got us to listen to and study Stockhausen at uni, my goodness it’s brutal.

Some really excellent suggestions on here already. For the slower stuff I adore Aphex Twin: Selected Ambient Works (all great but first is particularly stunning) and Global Communication; 76:14. Those two albums helped me with long hours of study.

I spent my teenager’s years listening to Kitaro. It surely influences my music over time. One of the reasons why I’m getting a miniKORG 700 FS.

From what you’ve listed, you will 100% love Djrum.

I’m not sure you’ll have the time to catch up, there’s too many.

Thank you all so much! I knew I could count on the Elektronauts to take me to school. I am pleasantly surprised at how many names I don’t even recognize on this list, and the wide variety of genres. Keep it coming y’all.

@Microtribe Yeah I get what you mean. I mainly meant that there’s records that most ppl agree on as being really good (or really bad too).

@Adelock I have listened to Timeless before. That was some goooood stuff.

@subdatum Same here! That’s partially why I started the thread, in case anyone else was missing out.

@Claid I listened to Gesang der Junlinge just last night in fact. I found it to be quite interesting but also somewhat unsettling.

@Tchu You’re probably right, but it won’t stop me from trying. :joy:

I don’t think anyone has mentioned Leftfield’s Leftism yet. It’s just about perfect. Such an alive sounding album.

Most of Orbital’s 90s albums are pretty great too. Brown is probably my favourite.

A lot of classics has already been mentioned, but I didn’t see Photek mentioned. I used to listen a lot to his first album: Modus Operandi

:point_up:t4: this, actually I’d say you can’t go wrong with much of his stuff especially if you’re after some dnb from that era. I also like his album Solaris which has some house/techno-ish tunes on there as well.
