Yeah… it was so so many interesting stuff made with Flash… I remember I even studied Flash (and after teach a bit )… sad that it’s dead…

To find a weird site you have to make a weird search request…

See what I’ve found today:

Too bad that one site that was a shrine to some weird lady’s miscarriaged fetuses, featuring pictures of said fetuses dressed in fluffy dresses isn’t online anymore.

perhaps so mundane that it’s weird in this thread, but I was a little sad to see JST’s (you probably have some electronics that use their connectors inside) website updated from the charmingly crusty format it used to be.

the animated text baked into gifs!

current site, as of the other week:

just another cookie-cutter tech website now. nothing unique

Is one of the few decent web humour/satirical of the last few years and was better when people didn’t know it was written in the modern era. If you grew up in certain parts of the u.k (the north) in the 70’s/80’s then it made it easier to fully grasp the fact that it was an absurdist piss take yet it managed to fool a news item I seem to remember, for which they had to make a retraction.

I used to love reading Maddox (can’t remember his site anymore)

Ninjas vs Pirates (ninjas shredding on guitar etc)

Salad finger.

i used it quite a lot back in the days for all sort of things web related and not but unfortunately, especially on the web side, there were always issues one had to solve, whether it being the plugin not being fully supported, being it slightly heavy on the cpu of the time …all in all though, it was definitely nice to be able to work in a timeline based environment to do things, throwing in when/if needed some actionscript but maybe it wasn’t the right time for it? and nowadays one can do a lot with html5 and all the various libraries available so mh, would have been nice to still have it around but maybe it would have gone in a different direction then the one it was maybe meant to go…

Perhaps deserving of it’s own thread and perhaps not the weird you want to read, but a fascinating story of how Gearslutz was created and a partnership dissolved and lost in a kind of hostile takeover of a partner’s share. It’s pretty shocking and sad really. A 12 page blog recounting it’s formation and partner ousting. A lesson in how a verbal business agreement with an ex-partner is not a solid foundation for starting a business.

On a similar note, older posts on the Earache blog have a huge amount of funny and / or petty stories about early death metal & grindcore pioneers. They all seem to hate Digby, and Digby seems to hate them. Weird because of how blatantly dismissive he is, as those bands made his career. A+ early internet content.

It was a security nightmare (by design), the inefficiency and power management could’ve at least been worked around and optimized for.

Nice thread!

Nowadays most websites are standard wordpress themes that focus on SEO instead of creativity. That makes me sad as webdeveloper, because i like to make website for people not for machines.

the fact that https://ytmnd.com/ is still going was kind of surprising to me. https://procatinator.com/ was ok also.

Radio garden for radio with nice global design.

Someone is listening internet radio or soundcloud through winamp ( for the visuals:llama::sunglasses:)?
Tried it sometimes. Probably I‘m forgetting something obvious, or is it buggy or not working?
