Wee Noise Makers PGB-1

From Synthfest France :

So, is this the same device that he was in beta with a couple years ago which was intended to be a PS ONE emulator micro groovebox or did he scrap that idea and this PGB-1 is a completely different device?

Another demonstration from synth fest. Use youtube’s captions and auto translate for English or other languages

No idea but holy shit i want that

Yeah I got super hyped for a second when I noticed this thread.

He deleted all of his old youtube content and only seems to be focused on promoting this product otherwise I’d link you to a video of the demos he was working on.

Which is probably frustrating for people who purchased some of his previous efforts and might want to reference the old video content he had made for them… but I guess that’s neither here nor there, and he must be very confident about his work on this.

PGB-1 looks interesting and certainly competitive with other similar products we’ve seen pop up here (ie woovebox / nunomo Qun) so hearing more user experiences with the actual device will be something to look forward to.

did anyone get one?

I noticed Perfect Circuit (US retailer) is now carrying these ant-sized :ant: instruments :

Perfect Circuit shows a $50 price difference between the plastic and the metal case versions.

I’m looking to get one of these. It’s really up my street, especially with how it’s hackable (has its own SDK), it’s fairly complete as a groovebox and has a decent set of I/O (as long as you’re a little gentle with it, understandably full-size MIDI may be a little cumbersome for such a small device).

Only real limitation would be the monophonic channels, but I might make use of its samplers and some sound design/chord channel workarounds to get around that. The physical interface itself is also proven for portability over ergonomics, I’ll consider a MIDI controller later on when I can.

Hello here, I am Fabien creator of the PGB-1 and I’ve just noticed this thread.

I will be happy to answer any question on the PGB-1, so don’t hesitate

@shigginpit Do you think it’s too high of a difference?

Thanks for your work on this device, and how it’s available on Crowd Supply among a large number of great open source projects there. I’ve not yet come around to getting one, maybe one day if budget, other constraints and project needs allow this for me.

Does this synth do wavetables? I think I saw a “Morph” synth preset/engine, but I’m not sure what it does. I think I might have to check YouTube reviews if and when I can.

The “Morph” engine is based on MI’s braids, it morphs from triangle to sawtooth to square to pulse.

We do have single cycle waveform engines, including now the ability to draw your own waveform on the device. Wavetables synths are on the TODO list.
