I’m thinking about picking up a wavetable synth to complement my analog synths. I’ve had a virus and whilst the sound was great, programming it wasn’t the best experience. Ideally I do like knob per function. In your experience, what is your favourite wavetable synth for programming sounds? What has the best interface in your opinion?
The Hydrasynth, without any doubt. The mod-matrix setup is so logical.
Hydrasynth is probably the answer, but now that you can create and load user wavetables into the Peak I think it has to be in contention too. It’s very easy to use and almost knob per function, although a few common functions are in a menu (like oscillator FM and the third and fourth LFOs). (If you have space & budget, the Summit surfaces some of them to the front panel and has an improved filter design that lets you run the 12db HP & LP filters simultaneously.)
Thanks. I should probably add that I’m looking for a desktop unit.
Hydrasynth technically has the best UX for modulations and sound design, but the Peak sounds infinitely better. It also holds up well in the mod matrix department. I haven’t played with the Argon8 yet but it seems like it would be great for ‘band-oriented’ music. On the budget end of the spectrum, there’s the Microfreak and Blofeld.
Take a look at the Argon 8m
Fizmo is second to none in terms of transwave synthesis, all other wavetable synths fizzle-out in comparison.
Yes, of course, a Fizmo desktop would do the job!
Not too easy to find!
Hu?! I had never heard of this. Interesting.
Summit sounds amazing. The new wavetable update was a complete surprise and really adds some value to this beauty. No doubt the Peak would be an awesome tabletop if amazing sound and flexibility is the goal
Edit: if they add the ability to modulate mod slots via other mod slots, there’s really nothing left to add. It would be a perfect synth imo
