Waldorf Iridium thread

Sure! But you might be responsible for shipping it to Germany (about $300 with UPS).

No idea if it’s on a case by case basis, but last time I had to ship an item back to them for a warranty repair, they sent a shipping label at no cost to me.

It’s also helpful to keep their original shipping box and then the only drawback will be waiting time.

I am wary of buying these 2nd hand, the screens used to fall in. Not sure if that’s been improved on more recent hardware.

It is also the only hardware from this platform (Quantum MKII and Iridium keys) to still carry the old Waldorf logo. Surely it is due an update soon to bring it in line? Who knows if any other changes or improvements are planned.

Ha whoops!

Thoughts on super 6 desktop vs iridium? Potential for a trade that may be calling my name.

which are you trading into?

the Iridium desktop is fantastic

I’ve never seen a Super6 in person, the pads sound cool but the Iridium definitely does tons of pads and soundscapes

Totally different sound and interface. I feel like the S6 is way more FAFO and the Iridium is more planning and the power that comes with that.

I have both, and they couldn’t be more different synthesizers. It really depends on your needs. The Iridium gives you instant feedback on the screen of just about everything, and has thousands and thousands of patches, plus sample memory to make your own granular patches, etc.

Super 6 is the opposite of that. From patch to patch there’s almost no knowing what a knob or slider’s value is until you start moving it around. This is a common annoyance when you think about LFOs/modulators. Limited patch memory and FX, but that’s not what the Super 6 is about (it hurts it doesn’t have reverb but I get it). If you know your synthesis you’ll be making epic patches in seconds.

Both synthesizers are pretty much top-of-class for what they do in that price range.

Agree. I have Super 6 for over two years now and I re-bought the Iridium today. They are chalk and cheese. The UDO is much more raw and natural sounding, the Waldorf is pristine and hifi. Both complement each other well. Keep both if you can. The Super 6 is phenomenal though, best overall sounding synthesizer ever made imo. Iridium is a pure playground, very deep and surprisingly fun to use despite ā€œmenuā€ dive.

From these responses I have decided to keep the Super 6 and explore the Iridium at a later date if I get a chance.

I tested the Iridium and Iridium Keys at Superbooth and they are a dream. I am just waiting for the time when my bank account is ready for purchase :joy:

Still so in love with my Iridium Keys, it’s a fantastic synth with one of the best user interfaces around. Built quality is also so nice, it’s just a joy to use and hear in action.

I recently swapped my Hydrasynth KB for an Iridium KB. I must say: I love the Iridium so far! Gel much better with it than with the Hydrasynth, although that is also very good.

Anyway, one feature I really like on the Hydrasynth is the Voice mod source. The Iridium also has a Voice Number mod source, but it is not possible (afaik) to change the mod amount of each voice. It is just literally the number of the voice times an amount of modulation. Since the voice being used always cycles in the order 1 to 16, it builds up until it reaches the last voice and then it drops again starting from voice 1.

Is there a way to either change the order of voices being used, or to change the mod amount of each voice? I was hoping to use the Komplex modulator with a very slow rate and set voice number as source and route it to the phase of the Komplex modulator as a destination, so each voice will result in a different phase = output of the Komplex modulator. But it turns out that phase is not modulatable, neither is it for any of the LFO’s.

Any other ideas?

I know, I could just use the random trigger as a source, but that is really random, where I would like to have the same value for each specific voice every time it is triggered, but with a (semi random) spread between the voices.

Not the same thing, but have you played with unisono index?

Just curious if using a phase of ā€œFreeā€ would work for you. Since the LFOs/Komplex Mod can be polyphonic, this lets them affect each voice. This works really nice to do things like having every voice pan differently.

Ooooooo, one thing that didn’t appeal with the Iridium was the size so a compact one seems nice.

The problem is the price now really is almost no difference from what I can see on Juno/Thomann.

Doesn’t Unisono idx only work when Unison is turned on? That’s not really what I’m looking for…

Using the LFO in polyphonic mode with a free phase might actually do the trick if I set it to S&H and at the lowest rate. It will change every X seconds when the S&H cycles, but that’s not too much of a problem. Will try that, thanks!

Wait is that a joke ? Isn’t headphone in basically audio in ?
