Waldorf Iridium thread

Yeah Waldorf really need a third party demonstrator - ive always found Rolfs videos very hard going and I genuinely dont mean that with any disrespect to the man.

Not sure I want to send my Iridium off. Think I’ll be giving this a miss for now.

I’ll ask them at SB today whether there’s any kind of DIY solution for out-of-warranty customers.

Honestly, I’m not too keen on shipping the keyboard either, even though I still have the original box and all that.

Thanx for this, hope to read you soon

Same here. I have a lot of respect for Waldorf. Offering existing customers the option of a hardware upgrade instead of buying a whole new unit is really unusual in the MI sector, and admirable from a sustainability perspective. But I’m wary of sending off my Iridium desktop. If I could have the work done locally I would go for it, but not if it means shipping internationally.

Can’t see it but wondering if the extra RAM will result in improvements in the Granular engine - i.e. Option for more grains, more in line with GR hardware

Got in touch with them.
Unfortunately no DIY option even if you have the knowledge.
There are too many risk about complaints if something will not work, they will have to support for people that don’t get the upgrade to work correctly.

Btw the cost covers the shipping back and forth.

International as well?? (probably not)

Believe you have to send to your country’s Waldorf distributor (in my case there isnt one!)

Exactly.

When my early gen iridium was sent back, Hand in Hand distribution were great in fixing it (U.K.)

Yeah sadly I am outside the UK and have the bulky keyboard version! Then again I have yet to fully explore mine as it is so this would not be a priority for me.

Appreciate they offer this service mind. Most companies would just say buy a MKII

That makes sense. Thanks.
(now I just need an Iridium, lol)

Yeah, and some after only a coupla years of the MkI.

Just as an academic question, elektronauts, what would be the upsides of having MKI and a MKII?

Hmmm, instances of the same FX on same layer across two machines popped out in my head. Like, two reverbs etc.

And obviously about 18.000 slots for patches, please forgive stating the obvious. Who doesn’t need that. If you’d save 1 patch a day that would take 49 years to fill up the memory banks :exploding_head:

More ram and faster cpu . When you are building complex patches this will be noticeable along with the P locking mode they now have on the MK II

I understand the advantages of the MKII over MKI

I was wondering about the synergies of owning both at the same time

(aside from avoiding Iridium Withdrawal Syndrome while my MKI away from home being upgraded )

Even the Synth engine can be changed per note in the AFX mode. (6 mins 30secs in)
