Thinking about when Waldorf released that analogue filter bank plug in unit…
Oh yeah, this

Interesting box… worlds first analogue controlled VST… a good 12/13 odd years before Elektron, maybe way ahead of it’s time, maybe a flawed idea, I played with it at Messe… basically the Waldorf analogue filters (I think like the Q+) shoved into a 2ru unit controlled via VST.
After that, they folded (again) and I think a lot of the knowldege/tech went next door to Access and into the TI.

Hey yeah I remember reading about it way back, great you had a chance to see it.
I always regretted not getting the Q+ when I was younger and had the cash to get a big daddy synth.
I can imagine Elektron doing something similar, but with fx and a final mastering mix stage obviously incorporating OB.
Did you get a Q any version?

It was “OK” from what I rememeber, but that was 10+ years ago… the killer (for me) was there there was no controls, just a power button… everything was tied to VST…
I think there is about 300 of them in the wild… saw one a while back, maybe a year ago for sale, might grab one if I see one again and have spare cash, code up my own VST for it.
Q+ is an absolute weapon
I had a MicroQ and Rack Attack many years ago, made some beautiful stuff with both, really miss the Attack I must admit. The VST and IOS don’t do it for me though, I like having the brick in front of me! Sold both for reasons I can’t recall!
I bought a Q rack when it popped up but had to let it go as my circumstances changed a few years back.
I’ve got a Shadow XT but it’s fried, keep meaning to get it looked at but after speaking with a few engineers it’s not looking too promising! I kind of don’t want confirmation it’s dead so I’m too scared to send it off.
It’s in a coffin in my toy cupboard!
Think I’m going to have to check it out soon now the pain has subsided a little!
You should definitely grab the filter box if you see it again, you could probs do some amazing stuff with your programming skills. You are right though, it was ahead of its time.
I did see a Q+ for sale about 3 years ago but couldn’t afford it or possibly smuggle it past the (now) wife!
But what a beast, can only imagine how much fun climbing all over it would be…
All this talk is not good for me, got a real warm glow for Waldorf in all their crazy company configurations but the XT situation above leaves me slightly sad.
Winning the lottery would force me to get a Wave! Think there was one going for 10k some time ago!
There is a company in Germany which would take care of your ShadowXT
Ive got a Q rack. Glad I kept hold of it, because I was a useless synth programmer when I bought it
I would love one with decent filters… Oh well its not that bad, enough outputs for external filtering
Sounds promising, are they well known for fixing Waldorfs?
Do you have a link or anything, I’d be interested to check them out?
Thanks man
You defo chose the right synth to start with there, the Waldorfs are generous in the knob department! Obviously not so much the Smaller units but the matrix editing is quick enough.
Really liked the drum programming on the Q and then making kits, vital and useful.
Shame there are less and less multitimbral synths that allow kits to be created.
It’s nearly a decade from now but i sent in my Waldorf RackAttack to this company
according to the site they are not listing Waldorf anymore… but ask them
another one is http://www.philsynth.com/
hope that helps
Cheers fella, that’s really good of you!
I will look them up and see what can be done, if the worst comes to the worst I’ll have to buy an orange XT and transfer the guts and brains into my Shadow shell, it has that funny felty smooth finish and the black makes it look mean above the OT!
It’s bad but the look of a unit does really make a difference…
I’ll report back, if either are in Berlin it might be a good excuse to visit the best city in the world!
EDIT, Bingo, Philsynth is in Berlin! HAH!
