VST-delays. What is good?

I like soundtoys echoboy junior a lot. Cheap and simple but with the great sound of its big brother

valhalla supermassive is great for a free plugin. i also use surreal machines’ modnetic and diffuse all the time. they’re pretty awesome.

Yeah Sandman Pro is pretty great for more sound-designy or glitchy tasks. my favourite bread and butter delay is definitely Valhalla Delay, like a lot of other elektronauts it seems :slightly_smiling_face: (simple, easy to use, nice selection of modes)

Really cool to see what everyone is using for delays ITB, I’m usually so focussed on reverbs that I rarely think about delays on here.

Seems there’s a real preference for Valhalla’s and Soundtoys’ delays.

Someone also mentioned the Eventide H3000…just wanna give some props to that plugin also (and the hardware of course), it’s total madness

…oh yesh… i forgot…
valhalls super massive is in fact a reverb meets delay combo including shimmerstuff halls and endless tails…and it’s for free…
at least for valhalla costumers…

so buy that cheap valhalla vintage delay and get that super massive as a goody on top and u won’t miss a thing…ever…

soundtoys and eventide stuff are pretty on eye level to each other in overall sonic grattitude and as timeless as expensive in total comparison…no to mention all that exclusive licensing hussels they’re asking for…

That is actually exactly what I used to do. But then I sort of fell out of love with the those filters. I felt I had too hard of a time finding the sweet spot.

…maybe try some additional eqing inbetween the chaining?..

alwas keep in mind…they all cook with water…eventides fomous top end whispering crispyness for example, is nothing but pushing the right frequencies in the hi bands…
while all shimmer effects are nothing but internal chorus feedbacks…and so on and so on…

nothing u could not built on ur own in such daws like ableton and bitwig…

I think Super Massive is free without any need of purchase…

If you have Live Suite, you should try the Echo stock effect before spending money on plugins

Self appointed delay junkie here… these are my favorites:

  • U-he Color Copy
  • SoundToys Echoboy
  • Valhalla Delay
  • NI Replika XT
  • UVI Relayer
  • Surreal Machines - Dub Machines

There’s plenty other good ones too, but those are my go to choices.

Nothing to add here that hasn’t been said already. I use Valhalla Delay and U-he Colour Copy but I think Ableton’s Echo effect is extremely underrated and worth exploring.

It is. As is FreqEcho. Both are worth a sniff.

You can demo Valhalla, just download it and install. Audio will occasionally cut out (until you buy a licence)

Audio Damage Dubstation, first bought 16 years ago, still gets it done for me.
It’s been through some revisions, for sure, but the core vibe is still there. And it’s more usable than ever.

Always been real affordable, too. It was even free for a while, through Novation’s program.

While i also use Valhalla Super Massive, Ableton 10’s stock echo effect is VERY powerful and sounds great.

I’ve been beta-ing Ableton 11, and the new Spectral Time granular based delay is also pretty freaking amazing.

Someone just playing with it in a pretty extreme way (although didn’t use the granular freeze!) (they named their saved preset ā€˜Delay Reso Glitch’, but this is the Spectral Time device):

FabFilter Timeless is amazing. Reaaally deep, presets are very well made.
Already mentionned but I enjoy a lot Replika from NI.

I’ve been thinking about getting FabFilter Timeless for awhile, I keep forgetting I have Replika, I should use it more.

When it came out I picked up Audiothing Wires, a model of a Soviet Wire Recorder Echo that Hainbach resurrected. It sounds lovely and also has some great saturation abilities. I’ve been using that on a few tracks recently and will continue to do so.

Timeless 2 is really good for LFO modulated filters etc.

The delay feedback configuration takes a bit of getting used to though.

I’m really liking the delays in Line6 Helix Native though. Probably not worth buying just for the delays, but for guitar effects - phwoar!

The relatively new arturia ones are also good. But I have to say that you can get a lot of mileage out of the delay in abeton.
