Volt Music Store – Bad Customer Experience [resolved]

Hi everyone,
I placed an order two weeks ago on the Volt Music webstore because the module I was looking for was listed as in stock. After a few days without any shipping confirmation, I started to wonder what was going on with my order.

The following week, I contacted the shop via email and WhatsApp. They responded, saying the module was coming from the UK, should arrive that week, and would be shipped shortly after. They also mentioned that delays were possible due to Superbooth, even though the manufacturer of the module didn’t attend the event—apparently, their main supplier did.

I’m located in the EU, and this store was the only one that had the module in stock, so I decided to go with them.

Now, two weeks later, I still haven’t received any shipping updates. I sent them a message on Monday and have yet to receive a response.

At this point, I’m extremely frustrated and, unfortunately, cannot recommend this store. I’ve also come across numerous reports of poor customer experiences—unfortunately, I found them too late.

I bought a Bébé Cherie from Volt in the Netherlands. Service was good and fast shipping. No complaints to be honest.

Sorry to hear you’ve had a bad experience

I had something similar last year ordering a Wogglebug from them. Said it was in stock and then it wasn’t.

It took almost 2 months before I finally received it (because of hurricane Helene, so not really their fault…) but their communication really is a bit spotty. I had to ask multiple times for updates.

They’re not a scammy shop though. I bough a Lyra from them before and that got delivered next day. I asked beforehand if the color I wanted was in stock and they replied pretty quickly.

Try calling them. I know, it’s not what us nerds like to do, but it’s often the best way to get an answer.

I tried and there was only some tape playing with Dutch speaking. Managed to cancel the order eventually by WhatsApp. Never again.

Unfortunately similar experience with items listed as in stock and turning out not to be.

Not fully scammy indeed, but I’ve also had some slightly dodgy experience with them selling me an Elektron that they said totally new, only the seal was opened for a moment to check it, but actually at home I found out there were loads of projects on there and all factory content was missing on it. Returned it.

Happened to me twice, got both of the items with quite a bit of delay. They are a bit cheaper than most shops, but imo not worth the frustration and long waiting times. Definitely won’t order there again.

same here - octa listed as in stock. it wasn’t. took a few weeks but arrived in the end. seems to be their modus operandi.

Naughty behaviour to secure orders / business. Had this a few times elsewhere

Same here.

Y’all are generous – from the descriptions above I’d definitely classify this retailer in the “scammy” category, especially if they have a track record of trying to pass off used gear as new.

I think their stock is in Estland (or another baltic state, while one of their stores is in Rotterdam. It takes a while to send it, if you order you might think ‘in stock’ is in Holland.

I had an issue with a synth I bought at volt, it was easy to reach them, had one very friendly contact person (in stead of a helpdesk) and they helped me very well.

Interstate shipping doesn’t take weeks or months. Something is not right with these accounts.

One instance can probably be explained by logistics mishaps. Multiple instances speak of a business model.

This is not a scam because people are receiving products and getting refunds. Communication might be intermittent, but it does exist.

What it really boils down to is a pattern of borderline unethical sales practices which are not enough to put them out of business, but which has 6 out of the 7 firsthand experiences in this topic alone being similarly negative.

It’s a good lesson and perfect illustration of the old maxim “buyer beware”, however if they are eventually providing the goods, it is then with limited risk but high levels of frustration to do business with someone like this.

It’s also good to share this kind of information and it’s nice that OP was not on a rampage trying to defame the seller, only giving the current situation and making other members aware of the issue.

I ended up finding the module elsewhere and was fortunately able to cancel my order with Volt Music. There’s definitely room for improvement in how they communicate with customers. It might also be worth considering the long-term damage this kind of experience can do to their brand.

crisis over - another day, another poor online experience - resolved with pragmatism, nothing more needs to be said !
