Video recording with stereo audio

still, as vandamme says, it’ll need to be merged in some way with the video…
is there no solution to this on the market? i mean, i don’t need 10 tracks of audio neither super HD quality…just something that records video and audio that goes with it but it seems way too hard to find something, either too expensive or too many (unneeded) features … where’s simplicity when you need it!

Right, I found the Kodak ZI10 but it is not sold anymore. The solution of Pseen is ideal, the only addition needed is a USB mixer which can be found fairly cheap from Behringer. I did not find the video app supporting this…

How about a zoom handheld recorder? Even the cheapest one has stereo line in and doubles as a USB sound card and you can go into your iPad or iPhone with the relevant adapter.

If your budget can stretch up a bit, the more expensive models give you more inputs, swappable modules for mics, 1/4 inch inputs, etc.

Works great, straight into most iOS video apps.

There are of course many other brand equivalents that will do the same job.

The beauty of this approach is that you get more than just a sound card plus extreme portability for little outlay compared to buying a cheap audio interface.

I agree with Jc_selector: that zoomq3hd picked up cheap from ebay works like a charm.
works very good as field-recorder… nice and portable. has line-in and line-out.
(so you could put it between your octatrack and mixer… record your gigs…)

and gives nice video-files to work with… I just drop the recording results straight into reaper… I would use that ipad as touchcontroller/synthie thing… much better use for it, then crappy video-recorder… (hard to aim at something usefull and all that)

i tried doing some recordings with tablets at first, but still had the line-in issue but the videos, although didn’t have a good quality, were good enough but i was always left with having to sync the audio with the video and most of the times i would spend hours trying to put even a short video together (without considering the various takes ).
now i use a screen capture software, an external USB camera and the audio line-in on the Mac, too many things perhaps for such a simple task but kind of works … it would definitely be better to just push one single button to get things done though…will need to check a USB mixer, never though about it

The app I use is called HEx(cam) HD. I’m pretty sure it was free when I got it. Like I said I never changed the settings anywhere and all I did was a couple test videos to make sure I was getting audio in and it all worked great. Any board with a USB out should work but the one I use is a Yorkville vgm14. I don’t think I’ve had any sync issues but honestly I just listen to the audio when I review it after. I’ve never seen anything glaringly wrong.

I have been meaning to record some videos but this supposed top notch camera I bought recently “NIKON DS5300” only does 10 minute clips, what a joke lol.
Now I’m online gonna pull the trigger on that GO PRO HERO 4 BLACK, seems to record longer and will also do me for when I’m out on the bike.

That go pro hero 4 doesn’t have line-in… it has mic-in… as far as I know (could be wrong) that doesn’t work well.
you get shitty sounding audio… the mic on the thing itself records mono… (specs of website)

…may be worth trying any USB interface that pops around,i tried with a cheap mccrypt usb thing i had forgotten of,well, it doesn’t work : audio doesn’t get recorded, but the video is silent,meaning that the iPad is not using its internal mic so definitely something going on there but the UCA-222 seems like a good and cheap solution (and works)

I’ll check that out about the connections although i’m not concerned about sound from the camera I was just wanting something to do longer clips and then I’d just sync the video and audio on the mac.

I used to use a Fostex AR4i on my iphone 4s, very good interface with 3 stereo or mono inputs, but the problem with using iphone or ipad for video (apart from the picture quality) is that once you go over a certain file size transferring to the computer becomes a pain, basically it won’t allow files over a certain size to be sent, I can’t remember the workaround but it was painful.

The Roland UA11 mk2 works with newer ipads and iphones, pretty good too.

So far though I’m really liking the Sony HDR MV1, built exactly for recording music video, and the line in is very good quality, also you get a free app to tweak the audio which works well. Also the low light performance blows most other stuff away, something which I thought the ipad and iphone were terrible at, very grainy.
