Hi everyone — after shipping VEKTE 1.2.2 on desktop, i’m bringing it to iPad as promised, and the beta is now open on TestFlight.
On iPad it runs as an AUv3 MIDI processor, so you can route its 16 channels to your synths in AUM, Drambo, Loopy Pro or GarageBand — plus a standalone app with BLE-MIDI for driving hardware.
Touch-first UI, edge-to-edge — tested all the way back to the iPad Air 2 2016
Want in the beta testing pool?
Feedback very welcome, especially host quirks and older-iPad reports.

VEKTE 1.2.2 — Complete Feature List
16-channel generative MIDI sequencer by Vald Labs. MIDI output only — it generates patterns to drive your instruments.
Platforms & formats
- Desktop: VST3 (macOS universal + Windows x64), macOS standalone, macOS AUv3 (Logic’s MIDI FX slot)
- iPad: AUv3 MIDI processor — route all 16 channels in AUM, Drambo, Loopy Pro, GarageBand — plus standalone app with BLE-MIDI
- Runs back to iPad Air 2 (iOS 14+); touch-first UI, edge-to-edge
- Presets shared between iPad standalone and AUv3 (App Group)
Sequencing core
- 16 channels × 5 lanes each (1 NOTE + 4 MOD), 32-step patterns
- 36 deterministic algorithms, grouped by family:
- Rhythmic: Euclidean, Polyrhythm, Bresenham, Isorhythm, Run-Length
- Number/Sequence: Kaprekar, Fibonacci, Primes, Thue-Morse, Kolakoski, Sieve (Xenakis)
- Chaos/Dynamical: Logistic Map, Drunk w/ Memory, Bouncing Ball, Gravity Wells, Entropy Gradient, Pendulum Waves, Tether, Voss 1/f
- Cellular/Emergent: Cellular Automata, Game of Life, Turing Pattern, Flocking, L-Systems
- Harmonic/Melodic: Markov, Voice Leading, Harmonic Series, Call & Response, Tension Curve, Tonnetz Walk, String Resonance
- Wave/Geometric: Cantor Set, Penrose, Lissajous, Wave Interference, Random Walk
- Fully deterministic: same algorithm + parameters = same pattern, always. What you find, you keep.
- Per-lane: STEPS window (1–32), ROTATE, DENSE (deterministic density sculptor), PROB (per-step probability), step division (1/16, 1/8, 3/16, 1/4…)
- 9 playhead modes: Forward, Reverse, Q-Reverse, Ping-Pong, Q-Ping-Pong, Random, Brownian, Rnd-Skip, Bounce-4
- Host-locked to bar/beat (PPQ hardlock); loop/seek re-align automatically
- Seeded randomize per lane — every roll shows its seed; type a seed to reproduce it. Adjustable RND amount (0–100%, from gentle reshapes to full rolls). LOCK protects lanes; RANDOMIZE ALL for everything at once.
- Per-step note locks — locked steps survive randomize, algorithm changes, density, scale changes
NOTE lane
- Octave range (OCT−/OCT+) with normalize-stretch — patterns always fill the full range
- Root note + scale snapping, chord engine, STRUM (chord spread ±100), TIE with % sustain, SNGL/DRM modes
- Scale-locked piano-roll editing — only in-scale rows shown
- Base knobs: VEL, LENGTH, APPROACH, RATCHET — all host-automatable
MOD lanes (×4 per channel)
Each runs its own algorithm and writes to any of 25+ targets:
- Performance: Velocity, Length, any MIDI CC (14-bit for CC 0–31)
- Pitch: Transpose, Scale, Chord, Octave, Pitch (scale-snapped pitch bend with glide)
- Generator shape: Steps, Rotation, Prob, Dense, Trail, Strum
- Rate: Ratchet (×2–×8 retrigger trains), Note Division
- Groove: Swing, Humanize, Approach
- Playback: Direction (play mode per step), Auto-Rotate
- Cross-modulation: any lane’s algorithm parameters, per-step re-routing (Dest)
- 6 interpolation laws per lane: Step, Ramp, Triangle, Curve (Catmull-Rom), Mix, seeded Random — plus LFO-style sub-divisions (÷2…÷32)
- MIN/MAX output windowing; snap targets draw their quantization grid; bipolar targets draw from center
- Smooth CC curve emission (~689 Hz), no 7-bit staircase
Musicality
- APPROACH / FILL: contour-aware improvised pickups — in-scale passing tones walking toward the next note. Deterministic, scale-pure.
- Ratchet rolls with humanized drift and decay; strums re-order to sweep toward the next note
- SWING (bipolar, per instance) + HUMANIZE (notes and mod lanes, timing + value) — all deterministic, what you see is what plays
- Per-mod-lane groove lock (SWLCK) — modulation moves with the part
- 73 scales (diatonic, pentatonic, symmetric, world/exotic, microtonal) + 39 chords; mod sweeps stay within family
Slot modes
- SEQ — the sequencer
- KIT — one-octave kit mode: pattern picks the scale degree (drum-style mapping)
- ARP — the slot re-plays its generated contour re-rooted from live MIDI input; strictly follows held notes, latch + retrig pills, chord-as-scale from a conducting slot, live root readout
- Internal routing (DEST): send any slot into another slot’s ARP — chain arps into arps, per-step re-routing via mod lane
- Slot menu: Copy, Paste, Duplicate, Init, Split, Mute; slots on one MIDI channel auto-group
Arrangement (new in 1.2.2)
- SET / TRACK / PATTERN / PART hierarchy — full arrangements in the LIB browser
- BRANCH/SPLIT — commit-and-branch quicksaves
- History: 512 recoverable states per channel with human-readable diffs (
DENSE 0>41,SEQ>ARP); REBUILD any state or SPAWN it into a part; Log mode auditions history safely - Drag-and-drop parts/patterns across songs and sets (touch + mouse), copy/cut/paste, undo throughout
- Factory rig on first launch — never opens empty
Sharing
- VKT2 compact keys — a whole channel in a short base62 string (typically 43–130 chars); paste regenerates everything deterministically
- QR codes: show any key as a QR; scan keys with the iPad camera (channel or full 16-slot rig)
- Share Pattern card: 1080px PNG with QR + key + caption — on iPad, straight into the native Share sheet (X, Instagram, Messages, Photos)
- Save/load channels and full songs as files (desktop)
MIDI
- MIDI clock out (24 PPQN + Start/Stop/Continue/Song Position) — VEKTE can drive hardware or a DAW
- All 16 channels on one port; virtual “VEKTE” CoreMIDI port on macOS, loopMIDI on Windows
- Bluetooth MIDI pairing (macOS + iOS standalone)
- Vekte2Live helper plugin for channel splitting in Live on Windows
- Clean transport stop — explicit note-offs, no hung notes
Visualization & UI
- Live piano-roll + mod canvases, 60 Hz playheads, neon lane colors
- Everything drawn is everything played: gate tails, probability-muted steps, swing/humanize offsets, tie trails, live mod feedback on knobs
- Three-state transport (play/pause/stop), tap tempo, external-sync readout
- MIDI in/out + CPU stats in header
- Touch: long-press = right-click, knob zoom, 75px knobs, portrait + landscape layouts
- CC learn on every knob, per-control lock, tooltips throughout
