The a Elektron people described it as Overbridge in a box. I might have misunderstood though. My guess was that it’s some kind of embedded Linux running the plugin.
I think it’s basically just an FPGA or relatively low powered SOC and some DACs with a basic C API to control it and some memory to retain state. The only processing it needs to do is summing when you target multiple tracks at the same output. Maybe I’m underselling it but I don’t think embedded Linux would be required for this at all, though they certainly might have chosen to use it anyway to make their lives easier.
I also think a Linux is not suited for this as well. See Tonverk, where audio latency is around 10ms (or more, and many linux based devices do not have ultralow latency) while this box only has 5ms.
Got the Overhub II and it’s fantastic, significant leap over the first especially in being able to power my MacBook with 70W and 30W between the front ports.
Clamouring for news on the release of the other two now.
Any updates on when they’re likely to be up for order?
Curious to know if I can use a MIDI splitter to share one Outbox 8 with my Digiboxes? I only need a couple of individual output per box to send to Aux effects and the rest can go into a stereo mix.
Unfortunately, I highly doubt that would be possible because digital audio streams don’t travel using the MIDI protocol, which itself is really only able to handle note data, and machine control-type messages like start, stop, parameter control, and some types of file management like software upgrades.
In a perfect world that would be pretty sweet, but im sure they want to maximize sales on this box as its gonna be a BIG seller for them. Which is totally fine cause they make some of the best machines in the biz and totally deserve it. More money means more firmware updates for us!!
It’s not about the money. More to do with space on my worktop, live shows, and optimizing what I need. So I guess I’ll have to order two, plus the Overhub and Powerhub. Maybe not the Powerhub, as the three PSU doesn’t really take up too much space below my worktop.
Re. the powerhub, If I’m not using all the ports, can it supply more than 30w through a single one?
