Am i missing something obvious here - when i trig lock volume changes on a track and go in to the modulation setup for velocity there is no change in the volume meter on the left of the page.
Does the modulation setup for velocity only work when velocity trig mode is used?
I hope i phrasing this question correctly… anyways any thought on this would be greatly appreciated. tnx
The velocity mod uses values from trig velocity, not track volume, so you have to lock individual trig velocities.

So if you lay down a page of trigs, say a 16th note hihat pattern, can you apply trig velocity without playing in new notes in? Usually what i do is trig lock the every second note or random notes to get ghost notes/ movement happening.
Sure, just go to the TRIG page, hold down a trig and adjust the VEL parameter using encoder B.
