Using the FX track

I am just trying to get my head around the fx track aswell.

[color=rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.701961)]i was wondering why i can do p-locks as well as trigless locks on the FX track. what’s the difference between them on the FX track which isn’t triggering any envelopes or gates anyway? some mentioned the fx track can control cv gates but i didn’t find no information in the manual about that.

you can select a different source track for the cv out signals, they need not be derived from the cv channel, you could use the cv pair C/D to drive another external cv synth whilst using A/B for the first one, or you could sequence things other than notes/gate etc using the extra outs - that’s why you have envs/trigless etc

Sorry for reviving an old thread.

By using the FX as the source track, would this open up two more Envs and LFOs? Or would it just be for entering triggering events in the CV track? Any help is appreciated! I know the A4 boasts only 2 env and lfo, but I’m not sure if there’s some internal routing workaround or not…

only the note events are ‘borrowed’ from the FX track - the FX modulators are for targeting FX params

I have an external synth running into the the L input to utilize the FX on the A4. The part that is confusing me with sequencing the FX track is that I’m not hearing any of the parameter changes I set on p-locks effecting that incoming signal. Must I use one of the four main tracks to pass the external synth signal through in order to hear FX track p-locks?

no - should be fine - just lock the ext input level to see that it’s possible. perceived changes from other params will depend on the parameter - also make sure your Track level is turned up - this is like a global return level for all FX

I don’t think the fx track has any envelopes, only LFOs.

(But you can envelope sends to the fx, which might have similar results? Or p-lock an lfo trigger to ramp and set type to trig-if that’s what you want)

I know this is an old topic, but it’s the closest existing one to my question:

I was always under the impression that the CV (maybe FX too?) tracks can be used to trigger the 4 other INTERNAL tracks (in addition to changing the source for the CV track). Am I wrong? I searched and searched and couldn’t find out.

What I want to do is basically this:
1 track is drums. It has a fill line. I want to program a second part of fill on the CV track and control that drum track too. So, I can trigger two different fill patterns.

Could have sworn this was possible, but now I’m thinking it’s not.

Nah, as you suggest not possible - the only connection you (may) have is that a CV sequence on Track5(FX) can be influenced by trig events from Track 4, but other than that there’s no driving T1-4 from the extra utility tracks

I wonder if you could do something hacky with the MK2 to use CV Track info as a modulation source back to T1 e.g. via the Exp/Ctrl In jacks

What do you need to know exactly?
You can lock some FX parameters, trig LFOs, this sort of things…
You can also use the track as a second CV track.

I mean, you can actually use any of the track as a sequencer for CV.

My favorite trick is using T4 as the source for CV gate and v/Oct for the 0-Coast, that I get back into A4 audio ins and use as osc input. I can then use the filter (with key tracking), overdrive and modulations + FX to transform 0-Coast’s sound.

But yes, you can choose in CV track config which of the A4 6 available tracks will be used as a source for trigging CV signals.
