This seems like an embarrassingly easy question but how do I connect my digitakt to my Moog Grandmother so that the tempo of the digitakt controls the speed of the sequencer on the Grandmother. Also, please explain it to me like I’m 5. Thanks.
You can do this by sending MIDI clock and transport messages from the Digitakt (DT) to the Grandmother (GM).
Connections:
- Connect the MIDI Out port of the DT to the MIDI In port of the GM using a working MIDI cable.
On the DT:
-
In the SETTINGS > MIDI CONFIG > SYNC menu, activate both CLOCK SEND and TRANSPORT SEND.
-
In the SETTINGS > MIDI CONFIG > PORT CONFIG menu, set OUT PORT FUNC to “MIDI” and set OUTPUT TO to “MIDI”.
On the GM:
- You need to access the GM’s Global Settings as described at the top of page 37 of its manual, especially:
simultaneously press and hold the HOLD button (on the Left-Hand Controller) and SYNC button (in Oscillator 1) until the SYNC button begins to blink
-
Then follow the instructions for MIDI CLOCK INPUT lower on the same page of the manual: press the G#0 key then the F0 key.
-
Then press the SYNC button to exit the Global Settings edit mode.
The GM’s sequencer should now be activated when you start the DT’s sequencer. The RATE knob on the GM selects timing values that are musical subdivisions of this external tempo (manual, page 27).
AMAZING! I will try now. Thank you so much.
