Using internal sequencer but want LONG evolving sounds

Hi there,

I used to play with long evolving sounds triggered by only one note on each … let’s imagine … 64 bars (!)
using reverb, delay, we can make it almost infinite.

How could I do that easily with MnM’s internal seq ?

I cannot imagine an easy solution and it kills my motivation to use the internal sequencer even if I could dream, sometimes, about a liveset only with MnM + MD…

I’d suggest chaining patterns together or using song mode. Not really another way around it, and if there is, I’d love to hear it.

Maybe try 1/2, 1/4, 1/8 of the tempo?

Maybe try 1/2, 1/4, 1/8 of the tempo?

I’m pretty much a novice, but I’d try:

  • P-locks (I think this the key to what you want to do).
  • chaining patterns in SONG mode
  • using the SLIDE p-locks to unify notes so they sound like one loooong note.
  • use the TRIG SELECT button to place trigs for only the AMP, FILTER, or LFO of the sound. You can intermix them using p-locks and have your sound evolve like crazy!
  • feed the Output of the sound back into the MnM and use the FX to create a feedback loop of sorts.

Set the HOLD and RELEASE of your envelope all the way up to 127, which will hold the note infinitely, place a trigger on the sequencer, p-lock tweaks to parameters, and layer on FX as needed!

thanks a lot for your suggestion.
I’m really divided between:

  • trying to trick, cheat, hack and workaround these gears and use them only
  • using an external sequencer!

I’m a Live’s guy.
I LOVE mnm + md sounds but this is tricky to make polyrythms as we cannot have individual length per track… (actually it is not possible at all)

not sure yet.

What I’ve been trying lately is lowering the bpm to something like 90 (I use the Mono as Master, btw), and set the tempo multiplier on the MD to 2x, so the beat doesn’t drag, and play with the arp time and triggers to get variation. Then use p-locks and lfo’s to taste.

i usually set the MnM BPM to its minimum (wish it could go down to 20/10 :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: ), set decay and release to max or something around there and set the attack time high so that it takes a lot to actually get the note to play again (70-80 usually does it but you can experiment with different combinations). LFOs should also help you out. try what FreeFall suggests, there’re a lot of options on how to achieve what you’re looking for

external sequencer will be more straight for me.
it breaks the “only gears” paradigm, but I cannot handle too much workarounds …

but if you use and external sequencer, the length of the note will still be controlled by the hold parameter, won’t it?

julien,

Maybe you could try applying high arpegio speeds to a certain note. It is worth trying the song mode for this, but your performance would be more “automatised” (some people really don’t like this). On the other hand, this song automatisation is of utmost importance for complex, well-structured performances. That is what I really like about the MnM - it surprises me every day.

Sequence it from your octatrack using a midi track with a really low tempo division.
