Using Data Entry Knobs for Parameter Change

Hi there. Not sure if I’m missing it in the manual…maybe my terminology is wrong, but I’d like to use the A-H knobs to tweak parameters on different tracks without having to switch tracks. For example:

A knob: Clap Decay
B knob: Hi hat Decay
C knob: Snare Delay

…etc. Is there any way to do this? If so, could someone walk me through it? If not, is there ANY other way to accomplish what I need? Thank you!

You are describing a feature on the Machinedrum. AFAIK, it’s not possible on the AR.

Not directly.

You could set up some performance macros to control the parameters you want using the pads instead of the knobs.

Bummer…weird that an older model has a feature that a newer machine doesn’t.

How would you do it indirectly?

I don’t think it’s weird. Different machines have different performance options.

With the A4 you can also use the knobs in the way you described it. On AR you can use the pads for similar effects. On the Octatrack there is the crossfader and scenes for performance duties.

You can setup performance macros like PeterHanes said, and then use a small midi controller for controlling the macros with knobs.

I do it this way and use the faderfox pc4. Controls the performances or AR and AK

With a midi controller you can control track parameters directly. You don’t have to setup macros to control them.

Appendix C in the manual lists all control change messages.

Macros might be easier if you want to tweak within certain boundaries, though.

Thanks all for the answers! I’ll try to set up my beatstep pro to control the parameters.

Yes, but you need a big midi controller to control everything. With macros you can use a selection of parameters you know you tweak a lot when playing. And it can be different for each kit.
This way a simple, small midi controller becomes very powerful…
