Hey everybody, I have got this thing going on but I’m curious if others are doing something similar, or something more practical to get the same result.
The OT has great instant pattern changes but often i want to create smooth transitions between beats. Basically what a DJ would do with different songs but between different parts and patterns. This way I’m able to tie stuff together without ever losing energy in the sound. I have the main output routed to one input of my external mixer and the cue output routed to another. I have this jam in the first part for example, change to the second part that will have parts of the jam in part one and parts of the jam in part three. Route tracks belonging to the jam in part one to the main output, route the other tracks to the cue output and mix with the external mixer. This helps me create a more fluid mix i think.
Advantages include being able to use the OT scenes for controlling effects whilst mixing, and free easy selection of what goes to what output without having to program everything in the OT in advance. The external mixer also gives you an extra pair of DJ style EQ’s which is always nice.
Downsides are that my midi connected synths only come through in the main output and not the cue output as i am not willing to give them there own tracks because i need as many tracks available for different drum elements etc. Also it would be amazing to be able to route effect outputs to a single output for example. Build up crazy chaos, bring back all the beat and lat the craziness slowly fade away again. That would be nice.
