This has been at the back of my mind for a while and a mint unit has come up nearby.
Is anyone using a 414 or similar with their OT (+/- synths) to create 4 track “masters” or for tape loops/saturation/re-sampling back to OT?
How have you got it set up? Currently I have OT, Virus, Tetra, Avalon + Modular, all running through the 4 OT inputs.
I’ve got a tascam 244 that I need/want to setup, but haven’t quite decided how and exactly what role it’ll take.
I think likely it’ll end up with it as a kind of send/return to either the OT or the modular, probably modular as OT is lacking channels.
I also want to buy some loop tapes… for creating things like layered drones - and hopefully by using
the tapes frequently they will degrade
tricky though… as it’s combining multiple mixers and recorders.
Yes it might be that the initial use is just to stick the OT and virus through the 2x stereo ins to free up 2 OT outputs! The would also allow recording a “master” tape a little hot for some saturation & hiss. And keeps it simple.
But certainly I’d want to experiment with some drones and loops from the 414, probably also some heavily processed and distorted vocals - at the minute I haven’t got a way of sending vocals into my OT. Or indeed any decent vocal ideas!
Or, send 4 outputs from the OT into the tascam
Or, route all the synths through the tascam and send that into the OT inputs
So many ways to use it!
yeah… lots of ideas…
I do quite like the idea of using the tascam as a mixer,
though, I keep being a bit undecided if I should stick to using (4) mono channels, or (2) stereo … partly as eurorack, virus and OT all have stereo fx.
I need to play with this… and see if i want to use multi tracking (mono) more, or using it as recording/playback in stereo - i think the former, so then add stereo fx at end(?).
anyway, thanks, this has prompted me to get off my backside, and order a loop tape and also a tape splicer (to make more of my own )
Well that would give me a way to use all those expensive stomp boxes that are now lying unused because everything is routed through the OT!
