We talked about Newfangles Fixate:Midrange in the software deals thread and i just want to post a short example here. I used it v e r y subtle in this Digitone track i made some time ago. For those interested, what you hear is mainly one digitone keys pattern incl the 2 weird wind instruments, the sonar like ping sound which transforms into a bass is the waldorf M, the high strings later are from the Osmose and the reverb comes from the Walrus Slöer pedal.
In the loud passages you can hear, that Fixate is taming just a bid here and there and i was quite blown away how fine you can level its impact and how well the track is kept as is without altering the character by using it very subtle, only “fixing” some mud, resonance, etc. But you of course use it much more obvious or push your track in new directions. If you don’t know what Fixate is, check it out, it seems to be really very useful on single tracks as well as on mixes.
