I think the most natural upgrade from the Model:Cycles is Digitone II. Have you considered it? Unless you really want to go the sample way of course. You could probably get sound packs to find the sounds you’re after from the get-go and it’s a very creative and inspiring synthbox.
The sequencer is fantastic and much easier to use than the Torso T1.
Personally, I prefer the workflow on the Models devices. The Digitakt and Digitone are obviously very capable, but there is a lot of menu diving and button combinations to unleash that.
I’d suggest buying a used Digitakt or Digitone and see if it works for you. They’re both very affordable at the moment.
Too expensive for what it is in my opinion. Also I’m not trying to go from spending <200 on a used Cycles to around 900 on a Digitone 2. Also if the sequencer is the same as Cycles, which it most likely is, it’s not really what I’m looking for honestly.
I think I’m going to get Digitakt or Syntakt and then a T1 later on if I find the menu diving too bad. I’ve seen the TR8S being talked about a lot for live performance but I’ve never heard a demo of it for faster harder stuff and people say It’s kick is thin.
I think I’m going to use the M:C until before december, do a few more live sets with it and then upgrade to either Syntakt or Digitakt. I’m really looking for something I can learn to play on the fly without much preparation, maximum 3/4 premade patterns. If I had to play premade stuff all the time I’d just use a DAW and the mix my tracks…
Now I’m actually thinking about getting a M:S to go with my cycles. And then maybe selling both at some point and getting DT + ST or just straight up Rytm MK1. Just a thought tho…
Do you have a shop near you that stocks these boxes? Some hands-on time will give you a sense of what the workflow on the more expensive Elektrons is like.
The M:S is fun, though I use mine less than I thought I would.
Yep Mario’s set here instantly sold me on the M:C at the time.
Hmm no I don’t. I live in italy, not a big synth scene here. At least not in north italy, probably more around Rome. Anyway I’m gonna be playing around a lot more with my Cycles for a while and like I said consider getting a MS or another cheap and easy sampler. Let’s see how my journey goes. I really want to do improvised music 100% so maybe it’s a good setup for now.
