Upgrading from A4 to keys?

Hey. I’m thinking of selling my A4 to get the keys. I’m wondering if anyone else has upgraded and how they feel about it?

I’d really love having a nice after touch velocity keyboard, it would add a lot to my sequencing, and would be amazing to jam along with sequencer. I’d also love the extra outputs Do you guys think it’s worth the extra $700+

What would be the need in having both if it can’t polychain?

I guess it’s something that could be implemented in future tho.

My plan once my keys arrives is to not only have the choice of which one I use depending on who I’m jamming with and the context of what I’ll be doing, but also have a well integrated key controller for the rest of my elektrons. My live rig will become MDUW for drums , OT for samples , a4 module for bass and mono synth , and keys for poly and midi controller for everything including various other non-elektron pieces. I’m quite excited about having both in the setup.

Certainly not, however I wouldn’t be able to afford to keep the A4 if I bought the keys. Especially since I plan on buying the Sub 37 in the spring, And I don’t really have the need or space for both.

Yeah the Sub37 vs AK is also my dilemma here, cost wise and space wise. Also because it’s limited edition. Plus I just had the Sub phatty for a couple of weeks and loved it. Ah decisions decisions, damn my first world problems.

aftertouch is not gonna help your sequencing in the unit, it will help your performances a lot though !

I think listing the sub37 as limited edition is pr hype. Maybe they make a limited run with wood sides, but you know it will become a full production at some point and probably a little cheaper than the initial “limited edition prototype”. It seems to awesome to pass up on long sustained sales of it.

Yeah it sounded very much like the Sub 37 is going to be made for as long as there is demand for it. I am seeing on Moog’s web site they call it the Sub 37 The Sub 37 Tribute Edition.

Perhaps the first run of them will be tribute editions and then they will have a slightly less pretty version for the remaining poor souls who buy it later on :P. There is no way this is strictly a limited run synth.

But let us not forget that this year is a Quarter Quell, so there may be something special in store for each district’s tributes!

Srsly tho, the Sub 37 is super tempting to wait for… All those beautiful knobs, and so many modulation possibilities! Plus, an x0x style sequencer? I’m fairly torn now, and I was this close to hitting the buy-it-now button on the AK!
Decisions decisions… But what a great time to live in to get to make these decisions!

You’re saying the sequencer doesn’t record the after touch?

I wouldn’t mind having the Akeys and the sub37. I can’t rationalize having the a4 and an akeys

While my AK hasn’t arrived yet, for me the keyboard and individual outputs were reason enough to upgrade. There is a lot to be said about interface and ease of connection.

On a side note in relation to the Sub37, I used to have a Voyager and while it sounded great I couldn’t justify that much studio real estate for just a single note. Apples and oranges though, so it depends on what works for you and how much space you have.

Yep, it won’t. The sequencer will record Note, Length and Velocity - nothing else, so no Aftertouch, Pitchbend, Modwheel, etc etc - they’re all performance parameters ! Things are slightly different on the OT midi tracks though, so hope is not entirely lost that this could change in the future
