Updating the OS on a SPS-1 mk1

Just bought an MD MK1 off Craigslist, and I noticed that the OS is on 1.33. I would love to update it to the latest OS, but I have two questions:

  1. Will this delete the patterns/kits I have stored already? If so, can I back up the sysex data and then reload it to my updated MD?

  2. The only USB/MIDI interface I have is my Arturia Keystep. Would this work for transmitting the new OS over MIDI from my laptop?

  1. An OS update should not delete your data, but if you have data that you don’t want to lose you should back it up anyway. You can reload data that was backed up from an old OS version to your updated MD.

  2. In theory, there should be no problem with using the Keystep. Backing up your existing MD data would be a good test to see whether it is suitable.

That’s all I need to hear! Gonna give the backup a shot and see how it goes.
