There is something that has been puzzling me recently concerning the playback of repeated slices so I thought maybe someone had an explanation.
If I use the slice machine and put for example 8 consecutive trigs (all triggering the first slice), I get interesting variations or groove inside the otherwise unmodulated matching notes, different samples give different results.
It would be nice to understand what is going on as I like the results.
I just tried it again on a fresh project and there is definitely something going on.
I made an 8 step pattern, turned on slice and lit all the steps. When I pressed play there were in this example quite obvious patterns of accents, one of which was repeating after 32 steps.
I tried a few different samples and some were barely audible, mainly short sounds so maybe the notes are sort of crashing into each other and getting a wiggle on causing oscillations, I hope its not just my knackered ears.
Captain Pikant again If you go to 14.29 could it be this?
@digimatt This may be related. I’ve been using drum kit chains, 6 samples long, so not using grid machine, but defining slices on one-shot, with the result that I also have the same sample slice appearing on consecutive trigs. I also heard some unexpected results (appeared to be notes cutting short) but I didn’t pin it down I’m afraid, just worked around it. I’ll see if I can re-create.
You know I havn’t checked if doing the same with multiple one shots has the same results, its probably does. I have been using the slice machine a lot recently, always starting off with unassigned trigs, so once I noticed a trend became something to listen for.
