Hardly Used and faulty?..
I bought an Octatrack about a year ago and hardly used it. I thought about selling it, but then something happened and a fault developed. I took it with me on a holiday to try to get into it more, only to find it wasn’t working properly. I eventually figured out I’d brought the wrong power supply with me - thinking the Octatrack, A4 and Rytm all used the same one… nope! They don’t.
Can’t write to CF!
The next issue I descover again after neglecting it is I can’t write to the CF via Windows 10. At first, I thought this was a Windows 10 issue but after I formatted the CF card on the Octatrack, everything started working properly.
Phew! …and random pitch
So I bought a few packs for it, and had a listen. First thing I find is a simple short that plays back at random pitch every time. What’s going on here? How do I play random pitch? I load the sample into my own project, and no it’s not a feature of the sample (well, how could it be?). So I did a bit of googling and find “random LFO”.
So I set an LFO to pitch, change the DEP parameter and hear it changing pitch. I set the trigger to TRIG not FREE and it syncs up with the play of the sample. Now I’ve got the same sample playing back with random pitch. This opens up interesting possibilities…
