Ugly sticky gooey masking tape

I have used this for years. Stays where it should and goes away without residue.

Tape marking where things are on electronic instruments is a sign you need to rehearse more imo.

Yeah I’m more into memorization.

And I don’t consider myself a musician much either, and definitely not a museum curator :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

beautiful

Go ahead and memorize if you’ve got those skills and spare brain cells.

I still have passwords and perl one-liners from the 1990s stuck in my head, so I make extensive use of notebooks in my professional life and for music and other fun projects.

Labels and tape are useful tools. Sometimes tools can get in the way, sometimes they help your move faster and with more precision. Give them a try before you dismiss them.

Yes, you’re right. I’m one of those barbarian that use ugly tape.
In fact, i took the first and cheaper that i had in my workshop and use it. Aesthetic was not in my mind, i just want to play music at the moment i did it. Then, i had to change it lot of times. Happy not having use all my frogtape for that.
Now, when i watch it, i like this ugly tape. I like the décalé side of that.

It’s delightful to see this thread keep going and split into different philosophical camps around masking tape and adhesives.

And there’s SO MUCH variety of good tape and labels, hence my OP

This is great Nauts. I used masking tape to label cables about 5 years ago. Just moved and unwired for the first time and it was goo city. Never again!

I just had a buddy of mine say that the lead man for his band, which sells out 1000+ capacity venues and has been around the better part of a decade, puts a book of all their lyrics on stage for every performance. Whatever helps ya stay on track and put on a good show…

The funny thing about tape is that it sticks to things.

Hand letter down the labels with thin superglue underneath the trigs. Roll your instrument thru the sand of a fine sanded beach while the glue is still wet. Let it dry and blow the remaining sand .of the machine.
Didn’t try out myself and don’t claim your machine’s encoders end up skipping or your caught cat pooping on it afterwards but ill bet it looks kinda ok ish

Real musicians rub the labels off their synths entirely - if you don’t know where the screen brightness control is off by heart do you even deserve to music?

Yeah man, I’m always rocking that screen brightness fader at parties.
