They are $4k and $3.5k respectively here in the US unless you can find a used model

No desire whatsoever to sell my Super 6 for this.

I may well pick the DMNO up in future though.

About 1k cheaper in the US then - all swings and roundabouts :slight_smile: Looks an amazing synth (although never used any Black Corp gear).

UDO are in Bristol… I think the studio is near the Martin Parr foundation in the Paintworks development area. Great city!

I think the green (teal?) display possibly goes slightly better with the black one. They both look amazing, hard for me to pick between them.

white for me, but will wait a few years to see if a module comes out, who knows tho, being in the US, i may pick one up sooner before I get picked up for the gulags

I love the Oberheim SEM design language of the white one!

Regardless of color, I love how totally obvious and clear the signal flow is on the two independent synth parts is. Anyone with a modicum of synth knowledge can look at the interface and immediately grok what’s going on with the two parts. Very few multi-timbral synths do this well and it usually entirely to0 easy to forget which voice you’re editing because they’re all hidden behind a single interface.

Sonic Talk Discussion on the DMNO.

Some little bits from this.

This is not the first synth called “Domino” by George.

George asked Nick before Superbooth if it was too early to show this synth.

Nick has the confidence of a lot of people on stuff in the works. He knew about the TR-1000 for a while now too.

( Does anyone have an opinion on whether Superbooth would have been too early ? )

It’s never too early. I would say that it would be best if the product actually surfaced sometime after showing it though. I’m thinking specicially the Kurzweil VA-1. Notorious for being at NAMM, and them showing it off with a sound that went “peeeeeeeeeeeeeee” :smiley: The synth seemed pretty cool on paper, then it just disappeared and no “peeeeeeeeeeeee” was ever heard again.

I love to see the various stages of progress, even if it takes some time to get the product out. I know many are less patient about that. I think showing this sort of thing at trade shows makes sense, whereas long running teaser ad campaigns are more on the annoying side.

In the case of DMNO, it’s actually functional, and while it’s not 100% complete, I think that was the perfect introductory way to show it off. It also gives the dev (in this case George) some feedback before he gets done, and gets a thousand of them made or something. :slight_smile:

Yeah I value this hugely.

Interestingly at least with the ones the had at the show, the black DMNO uses a mix of white and black knobs to pick out key functions with white. Whereas the white DMNO has all black knobs.

I had a little chat with George about this. He prefers the black DMNO but the team insisted they had to launch the white one too. I agree white for me.

I fed back that I wish it had some flashes of (Digitakt) orange on it though. He said they’ll sell sets of knob caps, so I’ll be able to switch them out if I want.

See this is how they get me, the conversation has moved on from if I’m buying one to if I’m going to pay for a full set of extra key caps to customise it.

Bristronica was nearly too early. A couple of days before the show the firmware wasn’t working enough for Cuckoo to use it. So I think showing it at Superbooth would have been an error. It would have been more conceptual and there would have been too long for people to attach their views on what it should do potentially swinging public opinion against the synth when the proper details about what it actually is emerged.

I feel like they got the balance just about right. It was usable and had the core of what it is visible and available for members of the public to use and get excited about, but it’s very clear that there’s a sub-set of functionality that is still to be developed and that their perception of it might not match UDO’s implementation. I think that sub-set is now small enough to allow people to figure out whether or not they want it already.

It would be nice if he showed more of the heftier sounds, also chords/poly sounds. If i wanted thin and glassy i could get a super6 or gemini

Everything you just said is problematic. One, the S6 and Gemini are in no way thin and glassy. They produce some of the thickest swirling, nicely overdriven sounds I’ve heard.

Listening to a prototype of a synth at a show on a YouTube channel is hardly going to give you even a small inkling of what a synth is capable of.

I had a Super6 from a swap for a few days and that was my impression. If you got a different one it’s no problem for me,)

And yes, the DMNO is hard to judge… so long i only heard rather light but excellent sounds except that one video with the dubstep style bass. More of that please.

Mainly being silly there, but yeah, I’ve made some absolutely huge sounds with the Gemini. To the point where I’ve had to high-pass them to back them off a bit. It will do pretty much whatever you want IMO. You don’t even need to stack or use binaural or SuperDDS even to get huge sounds.

The same will be true of DMNO. I can nearly guarantee it based on what I believe he’s using internally, and the structure of the synth. Routable pole-mixed filter pairs should be able to get you just about any sound you can think of. (subtractively speaking) I’m almost certain that’s what’s in there.
