they do on the Analog Keys as well. and one of the most notorious synths for this was the Arp Odyssey mk3. what people experienced with that synth was that with the keys hanging over the edge, they were more susceptible to damage. especially if the synth fell or was dropped while gigging, etc (or if you get a little too animated while performing, I guess…). if the keys are flush with the casing, they’re less likely to get damaged in such an incident. that’s why someone started making and selling a strip of metal to go under them - mounted to the casing - on the Analog Keys (the “underbridge”).

The only synth able to drill a hole into the floor was the Kurzweil K26/2500X. All the rest can be expected to break when this happens.

If you get s Super 6 you will acknowledge it once when you get it and see it, then never notice it again.

The thing about the keys sticking out doesn’t really matter - I did initially want the Super 6 in my desk’s keyboard tray (Output Platform) but the height of it made it unwieldy by about an inch and my chair kept bumping the keys. So it went on it’s own stand and it’s been fine ever since. It’s such an amazing synthesizer.

I have the desktop since it´s release and it´s still Star Wars colour all the way!

At Bristronica George was talking about how working on the Gemini was giving him ideas for the Super 6. I love mine as is but new firmware is always exciting!

When I had a super 6 I put a decksaver on it right away because of this. Thank god I did. The back of my chair would have definitely taken out some keys if I hadn’t.

So I’m currently scoping out a really nice polly and the super 6 is of course in the scope. But after listening to demos, I really don’t get it. Im not hearing anything that makes me go wow… it’s a nice synth no doubt, but to me Peak has a lot more exciting sound possibilities and it feels like they share a lot in common. I’ve even played one in the flesh and wasn’t really wowed by it, it’s extremely nice, but it doesn’t make me go wow like some prophets do…

It could be that im partial to the Prophet sound and not the Juno sound, I must admit.

could anyone share a clip or patch that made then go wow with this synth? I would love to hear it!

This has a lot to do with it, I imagine. I’d say don’t overthink it. If you know what you like, go with that because when you sit down to make something, that’s going to always be the shortest distance to get you to something you’re happy with.

Poly-wise, I tend to go back and forth between Micromonsta 2, Prophet 12, Peak, and Super 6 desktops. And most of the patches I end up with could be done on any of them, given enough time. They all sound great and have oodles of mod slots, it’s just some get you to certain places faster than others.

So, for example, if the sound in my head has anything to do with chorus, phasing, or supersaws — especially in stereo — I start on the Super 6. The Peak has decent saws and actually a really nice chorus. But the S6 is kind of built around it. What’s extensive menu diving on another synth is just assigning an LFO or pushing DRIFT fader on the S6 — so It’s going to get there faster and with less friction.

If I know a sound is going to involve even a moderate amount of modulation, though, (and especially if I don’t have said modulation 100% planned out yet) I tend to reach for the S6 last. It has extensive modulation options, of course. But they’re harder to set up and “see” than the Peak. And of course the Peak has those awesome Animate buttons that I always end up finding a use for when they’re available.

Point being, very few modern polys are going to “lock you out” of a sound. Some will just take longer to get there. The Roland-y sounds you’re hearing from the S6 don’t mean that’s all it can do… but I do think it’s a fair reflection of what’s easiest to set up on it. And that’s as good a reason for preferring one poly over an other as anything else.

For me it was a demonstration of how smooth and big sounding could be this synth.
I sold it… yeah… and I bought it again (in white).
It’s not the best synth for deep modulation due its mod sources are very limited in comparison with others, but the sound is probably the best.
I’m filming more videos with it. Hope you like watch them and play with your synths!

Hadn’t played my S6 in awhile because I’ve been using other stuff, and had a nice full day of playing it yesterday,

What a beautiful machine. Hard to make it sound bad. I’m able to get these plucky arp sounds out of it that I’ve been dreaming of my whole synthesis life. Combination of using the alt waveforms, the 2 envelopes, and the filter. Magic.

I can’t help but wonder if parameter locking the sequencer would ever be possible in a future firmware update. That would really make this thing go from a dream synth to well, idk, a super-dream synth.

Ok thanks. My quick google search said they would potentially release bitimbrality at a later date but I think that information was from 2019 or something.
