Price going down. Now $1199
It was always going to go down. It’s common sales tactics. When they first posted about it they said there would be a ‘surprise’ and for people to stay alert.
“List Price: $1,499 (stay tuned for a little surprise)”
It’s the same tactic airlines use on flight delays. They announce it will be a four hour delay and there’s a huge sigh of disappointment, endless tweeting and social media complaints, then suddenly they fix the issue in ‘just’ two hours and everyone is happy again! All along it was only going to take two hours, but they’ve convinced you of something really special! They are still horribly delayed but the bad feelings towards the company are replaced by the sense that they really care
It’s clever really, and an often used tactic.
They are making the UB-Xa linked to a charity donation thing if you want to pay more!
“borrowing the words of teenage engineering, Uli says 'no one should have to pay over $1k for a UB-Xa. $899 + each purchase builds two music schools in a country you didn’t know existed”
In all seriousness though, $1,199 sounds great! it’s still not cheap, but that’s a good price.
I wonder for those that preordered above through their sweetwater reps directly, will you get refunded or was that the early early adopter price?
Under-promise, Over-Deliver! It’s the key to making people happy!
This is the USA. Retailers can’t take your money until they are about to ship you your purchase. There are exceptions to this, but this is in law to protect consumers.
I was really just joking, I don’t suspect anyone was charged for pre-orders that hadn’t really existed before today.
In other news, Andertons say late January, so there’s that! No UB-Xa christmas surprises this year.
Look for retailers that may pay to air-freight from the Music Tribe factory. There is one in particular that has done this before. Plus the cargo ships do arrive at different times in different continents.
I didn’t know that. Do you have a link to the law?
Someone please remind Perfect Circuit about this!
I did already ! – and canceled my order there. They are a “do not buy from” for me sadly, for that and other reasons.
The UB-Xa is for sale at Sweetwater.
Seems like a great deal to me. Bi-timbral poly-aftertouch, 61 keys, and 16 voices, plus i’m a sucker for the Oberheim sound…
I didn’t realize Sweetwater was already listing it. Thanks!
I have to admit, I no longer pre-order from Perfect Circuit either, but the frequent 10% off coupons there (and at Detroit Modular) keep my coming back!
Erm…I think @Jukka might have moved that himself…
But never underestimate knee jerk reactions on the interwebs!..Likely mine included!
seems to be available for preorder (shipment within 2-3 weeks) at Thomann for 1298 €
Thomann is the place that i was mentioning that does air-freight a first shipment from Behringer on hot products. ( Source of this info was the Behringer Facebook page. ) Looks like they did it again, in time for Xmas.
I made the experiment with the off topic thread, but that idea got shot down. Apologies to avantronica for making the extra work. I should have thought this through better.
Yeah I get the feeling it was that price all along. Fair enough, have that bit of theatre. It’s £899 here in the UK, so used it’ll be popping up at £700ish next year, which is definitely an interesting prospect (as long as it proves to be a good product).
Would expect a few bumps along the way, for instance getting the poly-aftertouch, or the MPE interface perfect. Those are hard steps, so fixable wrinkles are normal, though i don’t expect any “KNOCK OUTS”.
Beyond sliding pitch or vibrato via an external controller and some filter or LFO control, I doubt that MPE will be much of a breakthrough feature on this synth. Nonetheless, a polyAT key bed is always nice to have. With all those knobs, perhaps MIDI 2.0 would have a much bigger impact.
That’s likely doable, longer term. No need for pioneering this work, you can leave that to the MIDI 2.0 consortium members.
The P-AT on the UB-Xa, fell out of the work done for the CS-80 copy. That also would be nice with MIDI 2.0.
Thank you. I did not want to buy that. Really. But this? Delivery before Christmas? Probably? Oh man…
