The UB-Xa has MPE. Reference 9:15 of their video.
Jukka do you know if its Multi timbral? I see 4 slots for quick recall like the Nords.
You can do splits and layers according to the video… so 2 part multitimbral I suppose. With different MIDI channels.
It’s bi-timbral like the original.
Reference : 6:05 of their video.
Or that
Thanks guys. So the 4 presets will give you the option of Channel 1 or 2 thats cool enough.
This seems like a great price for such a synthesizer. Pretty stoked myself.
What’s there to like:
Modern amenities even if it’s a “Clone”
16 poly AT voices
Opportunity to relive the experience without breaking the “Bank”
Asking price (YMMV)
What’s there to consider:
Brand itself because of stigma associated
Scrutiny from others should one choose the path
Does one have to buy cheap-er and then buy twice
A desktop or lesser version might exist in future - think Deepmind 12
Personally, I would just stick to what I want from my gear, regardless of the bish-bashing, the world should be big enough to accommodate us all (I think).
Apparently the retail price will be 1200.
I thought Behringer said 1599, you have a source?
It’s 1500 Euro. Somebody asked a retailer for the retail price and they said 1200. It’s just a users comment and might be bullshit. But that would explains Behringers “expect a surprise” regarding the 1500.
Planning for the UB-Xa from five years back, with Pete and Rob of Midas.
This is pretty much the way you go about this sort of thing. The five years is a little unusual, but there obviously has been a lot of re-evaluation of the scope of this project over the years, which shows a lot of patience by the design team and management.
The second video in this series was on the Neutron !
maybe the surprise would be a desktop unit
Keep in mind the actual circuit boards of this are in no way comparable to the obx8 and probably account for much of the price difference. Basically no way of repairing this thing or even resoldering cold joints or much of anything besides complete replacement, pretty much the opposite of the obx8 that is very spread out and uses high quality circuits throughout. I agree it is a huge price difference though.
Elektronauts is so good, we get the expertise of electronic engineers, and designers with precise knowledge of equipment just becoming ready to be shipped.
They actually showed the circuit boards probably like a year ago.
So are DSI/Oberheim using thru hole components throughout? Are they using a substantially different material for their PCB’s? Have you had a UB-Xa and an OB on the bench in pieces to make comparisons?
I’m not sure why that was inappropriate, I didn’t mean it that way… I just said it is obvious looking at the pcb that you won’t be able to desolder the circuits without effecting other circuits and making a bigger mess. It is built the way phones are in that it is almost impossible to repair. The obx8 is very much the opposite with lots of room around high quality components. I’m not sure why that would make anyone mad… it is what it is…
Some people will get triggered when their favourite gear is being mentioned in any negative context.
From my experience many older Synths, like for example 1980s Roland or Yamaha, are incredibly well designed to the point that their PCB layout is well-suited for repair and maintenance work. Newer stuff not so much - mostly for the sake of keeping things compact and cheap.
