Hello all
I had an acid 8 in the past and always regret selling it. I dream of another one. And just discover there is an mk3. Im particularly after advice for mk2 vs mk3, because apparently if the new mark give new feature, it too miss some of the old feature of the mk2.
I also see that theynow have lot of products of all sort… nes and all…
at the time i discover some bug, wrote about them but never had an answer…
Anyway did you have some gear from them and how do you like it???

I think that there is a lot to like about Twisted Electrons stuff and they definitely make instruments that have a streak of uniqueness to them. They are perhaps a little on the expensive side but that’s what you get for it being a small boutique manufacturer. I’ve got an Acid Mk2 and the build quality on it is pretty good and it’s a great box to jam with. It has some really interesting features and is pretty hands on. Things like the bit inversion can be fun but can also be hit or miss/ineffectual at times. The ability to manually draw your own waves with the editor is really cool but there is a wee annoyance there. There are 4 categories of waves each with 4 examples and the first 3 waves are pretty similar with the 4th sounding the most unique - but you can only edit the 4th. Would’ve preferred to have more flexibility in which you can do that to so you could curate a selection of 16 in total.
To compare it with the Mk3 and I think that the key differences are the sound of the filter, hands-on effects and the new waveforms. These are mostly the same but I presume that the harmonised versions are the only way to access the functionality of the dual oscs which seems like a pity. If I was getting one now, I’d possibly be tempted by the Mk3 as the extra cost for the Mk2 isn’t warranted by the features/sound/form factor. Saying that I got my Mk2 new in a sale for less than a Mk3.
Of the other new stuff, I think the HapinesL looks really cool but there isn’t much info on the MIDI implementation. If could access each of the 4 parts individually from, for example, a DT/DN then it might be more usable than solely relying on it’s internal sequencer (which is OK but not too great). And then there is the new Deton8 coming out which looks pretty cool - there is a recent thread on here about it.
Anyway, so hopefully the above rambling was helpful.
Quirky stuff but interesting. I got a gen 1 therapSID with 6581. Noisy but it’s a 6581. Maybe one day I will get a therapSID with an 8520.
I have a MkI Acid8 that I got in a partial trade for a module I was selling. I haven’t really touched it much.
However I did order a TherapSID MkII about a week ago, and have been refreshing the LaPoste site every hour(ish) 
since it shipped. Hehehe. I’ll be happy to report back when it arrives and I pop a couple of 8580s in it.
It cleared customs, so it shouldn’t be much longer.
I have an AY3 mk I for doing chiptuney stuff. Wonderful sound, but the polyphony is a bit oddly laid out (3 voices for each audio output IIRC). Wont be selling it ever.
Works very well as a bass synth for elektro etc as well 
I finally pried my TherapSID out of the clutches of the evil postal service yesterday. I only had a little bit of time to play with it, but since I’m beyond versed in all things SID, it was pretty quick to get used to. The only things I’m really learning at the moment are some of the “hidden” button combos (to change MIDI ports, dual SID modes, etc.)
All of the main functionality is accessible on the panel, which is very nice. The build quality is perfect. Much much better than that of the MkI Acid8 I have. (granted, that was second hand, and I really haven’t touched it) The feel is immediately night and day between the two though. I’m sure the MkII Acid8 feels just like this MkII TherapSID though, so I don’t want to put anyone off. (plus I’ll reiterate I’ve had zero time on that old Acid8)
Anyway, the sound is exactly what one expects from a SID based device. The arpeggiator is tip-top, the combined waveforms and filter modes are easily accessed, assigning modulation is just like any modern synth (simply turn a knob and press the link button, kind of like newer DSI, Elektron, etc.)
It took me maybe ten minutes to get up and running including installing my SID chips.
Anyway, I can give more detailed opinions later, but since this is very much an “on the surface” device, I’m not sure there will be many surprises. I’m sure I’ll also be able to post some sounds or music sometime soon.
Oh, there are two things I wish it had. One is a power switch. It’s just on when it’s plugged in. Two would be a headphone output. The former would be simple. The latter, would require an additional op amp mixing circuit though, and maybe that wouldn’t fit. The TherapSID is packed very tightly into a small package.
I’m considering adding both of these myself, but not any time soon. It’s fine connected in the studio. It would just be nice if it had the headphone jack, because I could do a bit of sound design with it away from the studio. Not a big deal.
Anyway, if you’re considering anything from Twisted Electrons, consider this my endorsement.
I’m still absolutely loving my TherapSID. (there’s my mini update ) I still need to record some audio though.
Anyway, the real reason I’m posting again is this.
I think I’m going to get this and the new HapiNES L as well. I’m seeing a small, all Twisted Electrons setup apart from my larger setup for making chippy stuff. A Deton8 wouldn’t go amiss there either. I guess I’ll have to figure out where I’ll put it though. I do have a fairly large closet that isn’t being used. Maybe I’ll build a micro-studio in it. There’s definitely no room in the main one. 
Might need to sell a tiny bit more gear to offset it.
Maybe a boxed setup with a KMix ala Dave Mech-style. Maybe a Zero case… I may be going mad…
Yeah, I think the TherapKid looks pretty cool too. As does the Deton8. As does the HapiNES L… there’s a lot that’s tempting about all of them. The one that would seal the deal for me would be if each channel of the HapiNES L was accessible through it’s own midi channel. I’ve asked the question a couple of times on their Facebook in response to posts but as yet I’ve only got the bigger rubber ear from them. I’m not in any rush for any new kit so I’ll just see how things pan out once more videos of each device become available.
Likewise to the above, have an AY3, and though is slightly odd and in some ways even a bit limited compared to an ay3 synth I built myself based on someone else’s teensy project… It’s still quirky and interesting enough I cant ever see me selling it… What more could you want?
I’m guessing that TherapKid has SwinSIDs in it maybe?

I’m not sure if it uses those or not. I know the TherapSID is compatible with them. For the size of the KID though, I’m thinking it could be something else. (another software emulation maybe, or something based on the SwinSID perhaps).
I’ve always been intrigued with the acid 8"s. I saw there was a mk3 but wasn’t sure what you gain or lose over the mk2. they both sound amazing but are they easy to program? why would you chose the mk2 over the mk3?
I liked my acid8 mkI a lot as a stand-alone unit but my particular acid8 was impossible to sequence from the octatrack for whatever reason. Twisted electrons accepted it back for repairs and we decided he would keep my mkI and ship me a mkII as he hadn’t held on to any original mkIs and mine is in good shape. I have tried contacting him and am getting no reply for a few weeks now. I have no twisted electrons on which to jam as of now. I sure could go for some though.
Really like the look of the deton8. I want to put together a tiny jam set for travel and this plus a Micromonsta would be a fun pairing.

The best I could muster as far as a comparison is up at the top of this thread in the second post. If I was buying one new it would probably be the Mk.3 but I got a deal on my Mk.2 new for less than the Mk.3 is new now.
I totally agree with you about the Deton8, but the thing putting me off is that there is just so much new and cool stuff coming out just now and Superbooth is just around the corner too. I’ve got a Micromonsta and they defintely would pair really well though you’d need something else to sequence the Micromonsta with. Mind you, I think the Micromonsta pairs well with most things.
Anyone using TherapSID mk I with Octatrack? I’m having problems controlling the individual voices (midi ch 2-4) with the OT midi sequencer. The master channel 1 that controls all voices at the same time works. The individual voices don’t.

I’ve been thinking of adding some more chippy sounding gear to the arsenal and I wonder if anybody has any new info or impressions to share regarding the hapiNES?

I have a Deton8 and I’m pretty impressed by it and TE’s whole schmeal overall so I’m leaning toward just grabbing the hapiNES while it’s in stock. I guess my worry is there being some fatal flaw or limitation.

My friend has one and says it’s nice, but buggy and noisy. Probably buying the hapiNES L would be a better idea, it shouldn’t be noisy as long as you don’t use USB.
