I’m looking for an external MIDI controller featuring faders and/or knobs, and buttons or pads.
Ideally, I’d also like:
MIDI learn capability (It’s just a bonus; it’s not necessary.).
Macro creation (e.g., a fader controlling more than one parameter on the TV such as the resonance of two tracks simultaneously : meaning it sends multiple CCs from a single fader.
I’ve read up on a few MIDI controllers for the TV: Faderfox UC4, Launch Control, Electra One (though… it’s sold out), Light Reft Monolit, Oxi E16, etc.
Do you have any experiences—good or bad—Could you share ?
Regarding MIDI learn: That currently seems useless with Tonverk since it doesn’t send MIDI when changing parameters on the device as far as I can tell. Hope that’ll be possible with future firmware updates tho.
The Tonverk sends what you tell it to send, which is all done through a MIDI Machine. In that sense it is a programmable controller in its own right: you can choose what CCs are needed, send them live or sequence them. You have parameter locks on them all too, if you want. I prefer that way of working: no chance of accidental changes to external devices when you don’t want that. It should not send a CC when you’re working with on an internal Sample track, etc.
It certainly has it’s advantages that it doesn’t send MIDI CC/NRPN with every knob you touch, especially when daisy-chaining devices. Still, I would love this to be configurable like in other Elektron devices, specifically for the use case of setting up controllers much faster with MIDI learn. I wouldn’t mind if it’s turned off by default tho.

However, it seems to me that this doesn’t quite answer my question.
I am looking for a controller for TV [Tracktion Waveform], acting as a master rather than a slave. The goal—to reiterate—is, for example: to use a single fader to control, for example, the resonance frequency on TV tracks 6 and 8, or on sub-tracks 1, 3, and 7 of track 2. In short, I looking for controller to send multiple CC messages with a single movement on TV.
Is this possible with, say, the Faderfox UC4, MX12, or the Launch Control?
But for now, the TV’s OS doesn’t allow for MIDI track/channel assignment like the DN2 does; do you know if the next OS on TV will include it? Because I don’t think “Auto Channel” offers that level of precision—or am I mistaken?

Launch Control XL 3 can send 1 CC per knob/fader/button. e16 can send 2, but doesn’t have faders. When using TV, you can configure macros for mod wheel, aftertouch, breath control and pitch bend to control 4 parameters (on the same track) with 1 MIDI message.

Thanks for the video on the OXI e16 showing how to control four parameters with a single knob on the unit. However, I don’t see how to do this on the TV…
It seems the MidiHub goes beyond the limitations of many controllers by allowing you to send a virtually unlimited number of CC messages from a single knob, fader, etc. of your favourite controller.
In short, the combination of the MidiHub and the Launch Control XL seems to offer exactly what I’m looking for: a single gesture resulting in multiple parameter changes on the TV. Am I mistaken?
It’s per track, per pattern. So for track 1 on pattern 1 you can set it up so that e.g. mod wheel controls up to 4 parameters of track 1. The setup for pattern 2 can be different - if you want it to be the same, copy the settings.
Not sure which e16 video you mean. I can set two CCs for turning a knob, Another for pressing the knob. Maybe I’m missing something, and I haven’t looked into Lua scripts for e16 yet.
Have not used the MIDI hub myself, but I think you’re right about that.

I’m thinking of trying the Blokas MidiHub combo with a Launch Control X3. The price seems similar to the OXI E16, but perhaps it offers more features, though I’ll have to test it out. The TV really lacks macros and a fader… just like the OT…
Auto Channel links an incoming MIDI channel to the currently-selected track. When that is off, we currently have fixed track assignments, Tracks 1-8 receive on MIDI Channels 1-8 respectively.
I happen to have a MIDI master keyboard (Nektar Impact LX61+) that allows me to assign its MIDI send channel to easy access keys, and a couple of days ago I was switching between playing Tonverk Tracks 6…8 live by changing the channel on the keyboard from 6…8. So you do have per Track control, with Auto Channel off, but the Track / MIDI channel assignments are fixed (for now).
Sounds like a decent plan. I’m currently using e16 more than Launch Control, and trying to use more of the mod wheel / aftertouch macros on Tonverk. The idea is that it decouples the controller from the pattern. I have very few configurations on the controller, but then I can configure on the Tonverk what each controller knob does. So I don’t need to change the controller setup when I change to a pattern that requires different parameter changes. For example, I could have a single sample machine on pattern 1 track 1, and subtrack on pattern two track 1. I don’t need to change the controller setup when I want to change filter cutoff, just a different mapping in the Tonverk pattern.
Okay, I just tried out Lua scripting in e16. With a simple script it’s possible to send a bunch of different CCs (not limited to 2 like I said before).
That’s great! Here recent video, Elektron/E16, but without LUA, but it seem that, witrhout LUA script, with one knob/E16 we could affect more than 2 parameters; I’m wrong ? mistake ?
And once again, a huge thank you for your time and advice! Do you have an example of a Lua script for the E16 that handles two or more CC messages? Can you recommend a tutorial for Lua programming? Thanks again for your time.
Yes one knob can be in a group with 3 other knobs so they will all move at once, then it’s as though all 4 knobs are being turned at once. But that’s different to having one knob by itself controlling 2 cc parameters without any other knobs involved!
