Turn off OT pattern info for smooth PRG changes to MD?

Can you turn off whatever pattern info is getting transmitted on the PRG change channel?

Here’s what happens, any help is immensely appreciated:

OT and MD are slaved to a multiclock, OT midi goes back into multiclock to send prg chg to MD

OT prg change on CH 16 into CH 16 on MD works ok, except for the delay which I live with

When I hit start on my multiclock whatever pattern the OT is on automatically plays on the MD and THEN after 4 sometimes 8 bars will do a prg change to desired pattern

EX: in OT pattern A1 I have a prg change that says to go to C1. MD will play A1 for 4-8 bars before switching to C1

Othertimes if the MD is already on the desired prg chg pattern (C1) it will play for 1 bar and then switch BACK to whatever pattern the OT happens to be on (A1) and then in another 4-8 bars finally switch back to the desired prg chg pattern (C1 again)

it sucks!

things I’ve tried

1 making sure BANK is off on channel 16 on the OT (prg chg midi channel)

2 setting up a new global slot with no patterns mapped to any notes

3 sending a midi note instead of a prg chg (same problem even worse I feel)

4 sending both a prg chg and a midi note

5 made sure nothing else is being sent to the md and setting the midi receive to blank (no channels but prg chg still on 16)

6 tried different trig types in control map editor of MD (gate/start/que)

why does the pattern info from the OT automatically change the MD? HOw dO I tUrN it oFffff??

thank you for the help!

Have you activated PROG CH SEND in the PROJECT > MIDI > SYNC menu?

yes send is on and set to ch 16. I have also tried turning transp on and off in the same midi sync menu

That should have nothing to do with your stated problem.

The OT has two ways of sending MIDI Program Change messages:

  • The first is via the PROG CH SEND setting in the PROJECT > MIDI > SYNC menu; if you have activated that, then the OT will send a Program Change (PC) message corresponding to its next cued pattern number, so that B01 cued on the OT will select B01 to be cued on the MD.

  • The second is via PC messages programmed into the Part that is associated with the next cued Pattern. If you change to Pattern C01 on the OT, then the OT will send any values of PROG that you have programmed into the 8 MIDI sequencer tracks in the Part that is associated with Pattern C01.

You can also get the MD to change patterns in response to incoming MIDI Note messages using the MD’s MAP EDITOR feature.

It is not clear to me from your initial post which, or how many, of these methods you are using to try to achieve what you want, but I suggest that you try to use one of them only.

  • The first is designed to send the PC message in time to get the MD to change in time.
  • The second method will probably not work well to synchronize pattern changing.
  • The third will, I believe, again require the note message to be sent a little early.

It may not help that you have the loopback from the OT output through your clock device to the MD.

ohhhhhkayy got it

I thought in order to send a PC message (your 2nd description) you ALSO had to have PROG CH SEND ON in the PROJECT > MIDI > SYNC menu . I turned this off and now the midi note PC I have on CH16 sub menu works!

MD patterns still que for 1 bar of course but that doesn’t bother me as much as the initial problem I described

to clarify, yes I have been trying to use both by mistake! thank you for clearing that up @PeterHanes
