Hi all. I’m having trouble with the midi set up for Octatrack, Rytm and Electra One Midi Controller to control parameters on both machines and a tb03. I’m new to this. I put midi out from the controller to midi in on the octatrack. Then midi out from octatrack into midi in on the rytm. This enables syncing and controlling parameters on the octatrack but not controlling parameters on the rytm. The only way I can control both machine’s parameters at the moment is connecting the thru output of the octatrack into midi in of the rytm. But that means the sync doesn’t work. No matter what combinations, I can’t get syncing and controlling both machines parameters at the same time. Do I need some sort of merger box to take the thru and midi out of the octatrack both into the midi in of the rytm? Has anyone done similar out there? Surely this is the whole point, to sync and control all at the same time, it shouldn’t be this hard should it??!! Ha ha.

MIDI routing :
EO Out > OT In
OT Out > Rytm In
Then, on the OT, you can use a MIDI Track to pass the MIDI data of the EO to the Rytm (send on the MIDI Autochannel of the Rytm, I think).
or
You can use a MIDI Merge box :
EO Out > OT In
OT Out and Thru to the Merge box
Merge box Out > Rytm In
Use the OT to be the Master. Only the OT and the Rytm need to be synced and clocked. So, set the OT to send Clock, Transport and Program Change and set the Rytm to receive them.

Brilliant, thank you so much! Will give that a go, that’s great, thank you! Really appreciate it.

Unfortunately, I don’t have an EO to test it but this routing is general use.
I would really appreciate if you could report back the results. Thank you.

Yes, will do. I’m not familiar with the midi tracks yet. If I can learn and do tonight I will but if not, tomorrow. Thanks very much again for that!

Hi Tchu. I’m not having much luck with the midi track. I’m using midi track one. Got direct connect on. The cables as you say. Set auto channel to 15 on octatrack and rytm. Set midi channel to 15 on track one. Is any of that wrong do you think? Any other settings I should be looking at?

Hi Tchu. I’ve gone for the easiest option, the merge box, should get it tomorrow! Thanks very much, appreciate your help. Will let you know if the merge box works but pretty sure it will. Thank you!

On the Rytm, in the MIDI Config > Port Config, have you enabled Receive CC/NRPN?

Yes, done that. Not sure what I’m doing wrong. Anyway, got a magic box coming, that should sort it!

I tried a similar setup this morning.
Keystep Out > OT In
OT Out > Analog 4 In
Unfortunately, I don’t have any Controller but I tried with a Keystep and I can pass notes through the OT via a MIDI Track to play the A4.

It would need to go to several different channels on the rytm different channel for each track so not sure how it would work. I really appreciate your time and help and your suggestion of the box is going to solve it, thank you!
