I have the octatrack now since last friday, and some questions have arisen from it. The setup example in the manual as performance hub is on page 119.
(Shown with MD/MM).

I will use it with A4 and RYTM. I managed to setup the through machine example and i could also use a flex machine, and sampled the RYTM.

I understand that i can send program change messages, and the A4/RYTM will follow the pattern change on the Octatrack.

What i imagine to do is:

Sequence the A4, sample some chords, but not on the thru machine, it should be done on a seperate track. Is it possible to sample the same input on different tracks?

but i had a static machine, and i wanted to stream from the CF card a very long sample, i tried to place a one shot trig to start the playback only one. There seems to be a live mode, i.e. one shot track, where i can start a sample with pressing a trig. What i actually wanted was, that i can start at a certain sequencer step a sample without restarting it when the pattern is repeated.

One shot trigs are entered by pressing [FUNCTION] + the [TRIG] key of an existing sample
trig. The LED will change from red to yellow, indicating the trig now is now a
one shot trig. One shot trigs that have been activated by the sequencer are indicated by
alternating yellow and red LEDs. Quickly pressing [STOP] + [STOP] while the
sequencer is stopped, power cycling the Octatrack or changing projects will re-arm all one
shot trigs. The [STOP] + [STOP] behavior can be disabled in the PERSONALIZE menu.

I did press the mentioned function + trig key, to set it to one shot, but it kept repeating to restart itself. Can I control the arming of the track per pattern?

There is a recorder buffer used, while using the thru machines, so i can re-sample it as well?

How do you use the trinity? Do you resample it ? Or do you just use the direct output to save tracks (DIR mixer) When i resample the master track, would it capture the DIR output aswell? Is there a mode to continually save a recorder buffer to the CF card?

Lots of questions and as I’m on iPad it’s kinda hard to reply to all at once, so one at a time.

All these answers are probably in the manual, I suggest reading it through while doing these questions, it’s very easy to miss things until you have done them many times.

Yes you can sample to different tracks with the same source whether it’s a master resample, track resample or a direct input.

Ok, for the above problem you need to do what is called a one shot trig, this will play the sample once and not again until you re-arm that track. You can disarm the track by pressing exit/no while the track is highlighted. Various ways to do what you want. I just place a trig down, then press function and the trig button on sequencer. Search for this in the manual for other ways to do it. . .

There’s is no way to auto save while recording to the cf card, that’s a manual process.

When i resample the master track, would it capture the DIR output aswell? YES.

I don’t have any other elektron boxes although they are no different than any other instrument plugged to the inputs, you do with the re sampling whatever makes you happy man , perhaps sampling the others is better for your flow to free up their engines to add more sounds, perhaps sampling them is limiting for your tracks, it’s all your decision as to what’s best.

The track-recorders work all the same way. They all listen to inputs A/B and C/D. Have a look at manual p. 48 ff. You decide, which track-recorder will do the recording.

To start a sample once and not restart the sample again you might want to check:

the sample itself is “one-shot” only, it will not loop and stop after beeing played automatically (p. 103, loop mode), AND
you are using a one-shot trig to fire it. A one-shot trig is armed, used, and disarmed automatically (p 80 ff)

Jm and SoundRider already answered your questions, I think.
But for live performance is also good to take a look on the pickup machine, for live looping of internal or external gear.

what is the advantage of the pick up machine vs the flex machine ?
I imagine that is has something to do with recording non sequenced gear, like guitars, playing the Analog 4 directly, overdubbing the recorded sample.

Writing the recorder buffer, directly to the CF card is not possible ? I.e. using the octatrack as a recorder.
