Ok so I’ve got a Rytm and OT. I use the OT as the master and commander for my entire system. I’d like to be able to sequence patterns on the Rytm as part of OT arrangements.
Here’s what works just fine:
OT -> [MIDI Program Change] -> Rytm
So for example, you can sync pattern A01 on OT to pattern A01 on Rytm. Fine. good.
However, this kind of thing gets really boring and static quickly. There’s no transitions or fills, and you end up duplicating patterns on the Rytm.
I used to own a MD and it was capable of receiving triggers for entire patterns from Note On messages. This was really cool because you could inject fills and breakdowns and stutters and stuff.
My questions:
-
Did I overlook something in Rytm manual? Is it possible to trigger patterns with Note On messages?
-
If not, any other work arounds I’m missing?
-
Finally, how do you end up creating fills and transitions and such?
One possible work around I discovered is using a midi track on the OT and setting the bank/pattern accordingly. However, the subsequent Program Change message is only sent when the pattern starts, AFAIK there is no way to trigger a program change.
