I think @plragde has the right idea - something smaller like the M8 or a Tracker Mini makes more sense than what appears to be a full-sized Elektron box. I still sometimes bring a digital audio recorder to record temple and shrine bells and other sonically interesting content to bring back home.
If I was traveling with an Elektron, I’d want it in a Pelican case (definitely not a cheap knock off) and that would take up about half of my typical checked luggage. And then I’d have to drag it around Japan with me, or use Yamato to forward it.
Good point. I would just use my M8, but I am not going to be toting it around. I will tote my iPhone 16, but I think the H1n might have slightly better mikes, and it is easy to add it to my daypouch. Also, I might visit Five G – but would I record anything there? Would they let me?
IDK, but Five G is on one side of Harajuku station and Meiji Jingu is on the other, so plenty of interesting ambience to record even if Five G isn’t down with recording their gear.
If I ever find a used Sony D100, I’ll probably buy that and use it.
If you are going to Five G, give Meiji Jingu a try. It is a Shinto Shrine, but on a scale that is both epic and minimalistic. If the weather is good, there will be non-stop wedding processions which are unique and interesting to watch.
I will do that. I have walked in Shinjuku Gyoen, and watched locals go nuts over the first couple of cherry blossom trees to bloom, but after Kansai, I kind of gave up on shrines. Will try again.
I ordered a pound of flesh and that’s what I got. They have a variety of slain cow so you can pay a little or a lot depending on how highbrow the moo cow was during in its terrestrial manifestation.
I’m being weight conscious at the moment so I ordered a salad but the universe is conspiring against me and the salad came topped with more beef!!!
Weird day. Checked out of Tokyo, checked into Kyoto, went to Osaka for dinner.
