Hi guys,

I bought the OctaPack “INDIE” and that kind of Pack is very helpful to deeply understand how the Transition trick works.

However, I have a problem, sometimes (and sometimes only, that’s why I need your help ^^)

The 8th track is set with a Flex recorder and you can hear the recorded mix when the slider is on Scene B-16. No problem.

  • I press “PLAY” while my slider is on Scene A.

  • I can see that symbol on track 8: “+” (that indicates the recording is in progress).

  • At the end of the 64 steps, the symbol on track 8 is “+ >” (that indicates the recording is made and is now playing). Ok.

That’s perfect, and I have a lot of fun.

BUT! Sometimes, while the sequence is running and while my slider is on Scene B-16, the symbol “+ >” is changing into “+” and it means the recording is blank!!! Arrrchhh!!! That’s not a problem when I’m noodling in my studio, but now I’m affraid to have a blank during a live performance.

I don’t understand why. That configuration is the original one, from the OctaPack.

  • The pattern is set with 64 steps.
  • The flex recorder on my 8th track is set with 64 steps.
  • I only have one trig on step 1 and one recorder trig on step 1, and that’s all.

The second problem is that, sometimes, the recorded stuff seems to gain in volume, dramatically, if I let it play in loop…

What’s wrong? Is it a problem with the slider, its position? Is it because I’m playing with all the scenes? Is it maybe a problem with the CF-Card?

Thank you by advance guys.

I don’t have the pack you’re speaking of but I am very familiar with the transition trick.
You shouldn’t enable recording in scene B position as thru machines or mixer inputs, (depends which you are using), will be at minimum thus you’ll record nothing! If you’re just recording internally, ie recording the OTs output then you’ll also have issues as you’ll be recording your recording if you follow.
Scene A is typically for playback of inputs & regular track events.
Scene B is for playback of a recording of the above.

Not sure I’ve explained that very well? If that doesn’t sort out your problem can you be more specific about how you’ve got things setup. Ie are you recording inputs or internal tracks, mixer in or thru tracks etc…
Cheers

As you said, my Scene A is for playback of tracks (inputs + regular)
My Scene B is used to playback the recording.

Track 1-5: samples playback, Flex Machines
Track 6: stereo input A, Thru Machines
Track 7: stereo input B, Thru Machines
Track 8: flex recorder (recording all internal and inputs tracks)

I works! and it’s fun!

Each Scene, from 2 to 15 are for FX (reverb, delay, filters…)
Scene 16 is to playback the recording and thus, I’m able to change the pattern using the great Transition Trick, and moving slowly from Scene B to Scene (with the recording of the previous pattern) to Scene A with the new pattern.

The trick works fine.

The problem is that sometimes, for reasons I am not able to define, the 8th track stops the playback of the recording stuff “+ >” and just plays a blank part “+” and then I’m forced to bring back the slider quickly on the Scene A

Tried my best to dissect the problem (trig? recording trig? length of the recording trig? position of the slider?) but in vain…

Awesome!

How come you don’t need a separate track for the records?

Ah ah ah, thank you Baddcr, I’ll give a try to your advice!
Problem resolved and we are both happy

WIN-WIN topic! :+1: :joy:

Genius. Thanks

So, thanks to you Baddcr, no more problem with blank sample. I had an epic jam with OT, AR and Ipad this night. OT rules!

Last night, I’ve used the Alesis IO Dock and SECTOR on the iPad, (Sector as Master to Octatrack and AR). How fun it was!!! Totally crazy!

I also have the Oplab and the IconnectMidi 2+ that I’m using depending on my needs, to multiply fun with other synths. Porno  :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Yes iPad is a joy to use and is became a true instrument to me or a real swiss knife. So many possibilities since it has apps such as AudioBus and functions such as AudioCopy.

Yes, Ipad is one of the best Octafood!

+1 for iPad Octafood. Mitosynth to the OT has been one of my favorite things lately.

Check to see if it passes sysex. I know some interfaces don’t pass every type of MID
I message.

Yeah, the new Gridcore option in the Wavechamber is excellent. I’ve been making patches with that lately and using the OT’s LFOs to modulate between the waves while recording the output into the OT. Madness, I tell you!
