Transformers for warming up the Octatrack

prices might have risen on these. after a quick search it would seem they aren’t going for $150 any more… unless one knows where to look i guess. descriptions and user reviews seem to be glowing (excuse the pun re/ glowing and hot glass vacuum tubes which themselves also have a glowing quality).

I got it shipped over from Perth. Just look at gumtree every now and then.

THere are plenty of old tube amps out there being sold for cheap prices.

The old akai 1960 tube reel to reel are another bargain - pretty much revox clones.

If you don’t mind soldering, a stereo 500 series chassis/power supply and 2 Colour modules will set you back $450. The cinemag board is $60 a pop, so $570 for a great sounding stereo transformer unit, plus you have two more slots to play with per module as your budget/build time allow. Highly recommend as a tone shaper box for electronic instruments. I’d even say the cinemag one is mastering quality if you gain stage it right.

What had been a passing interest in inserting transformer into the mix has now become a necessity.

Does anyone have any strong opinions on the Radial ProD2 vs JDI Stereo? Seeing as I am in Europe, it’d be cool to avoid NA products: any good manufacturers in Europe that can compete with Radial?

Tia!
