Transferring songs from old Octatrack to the new one

Hey guys I just picked up my octatrack mkii yesterday ! I luv it and it works great. The feel of the buttons are really nice, the screen is great and the LEDs really look cool with all the sequencing.

The only issue I’m having is the CF Card from my rented octatrack mk 1 doesn’t work properly in my new mk2. It created some sort of new directory when I put the card into the newer octatrack. So all my songs and samples are there, but they’re not in the main folder so if I try to even open the song, they just play with no samples. Is there anyway I can move my old songs back into the main folder so I can hear them?

Have you heard of OctaEdit?

No I haven’t, is that what I need?

edit: Read on their site now. I can’t purchase the software right now and also, I don’t want to purchase extra software just to have access to songs I made a couple days ago. I just want to be able to open my songs.

On my computer this is an easy solution but here I don’t know : S

Maybe it created a new Set. Try if you can change Set (menu Project).

Otherwise I think it’s possible. Copy your files on the computer. Delete former MkI folder. Create a new set with the former MkI folder name. Copy project files in it.

Another not easy solution would be to change audio files path in project files. That’s why you can’t access to your audio files. Wrong folder path, depending on set.

Aren’t Sets what songs are called? I can’t open any of my sets from my CF Card, they open only with the midi info. They seem not to know where the samples are.

I guess I’ll have to try to fix the folder path somehow?

To be sure, there is a folder from your MkI, what’s his name?

Sets are a way to organise projects, basically a folder, but it can be complicated after, changing audio files path I suppose.

Here is an audio file path in a project file:
[SAMPLE]
TYPE=FLEX
SLOT=001
PATH=…/AUDIO/ELEKTRON/percs.wav
TRIM_BARSx100=200
TSMODE=2
LOOPMODE=1
GAIN=48
TRIGQUANTIZATION=-1
[/SAMPLE]

I guess you have to copy your AUDIO folder in your new set to make projects work.
You can also try to copy all your files in the new set/folder.

Gosh I’m glad I asked here before attempting this blindly! Thank you : )

Giving it a shot !

There’s two folders in my octatrack when I connect it to my comp. One is called Presets and the other is called U R IN. On the octatrack I was renting, all my songs are in the U R IN folder. I just thought it would be plug and play, plug my card into the new one and just open but I suppose not

I already copied the audio folder to my main folder, none of my sets will open.

Is there somewhere where I can just type and change the file path so it can find all the samples?

(I was busy)
The example of sample path above is from project.work file.
The .work are auto saved working files.
The .strd are saved (stored) files.
Maybe it’s better to change project.strd file and reload it.

Maybe you have to try again to change your Set, because I think you misunderstood.
Sets are folders containing projects and AUDIO folder.
In the Menu Project, search for SET > Change
Maybe U R IN will be considered as a set, as it should be.
U R IN the toilets ? :no_mouth:

Where are the projects you are trying to open located?
The structure should look like this:
On the root directory you should have a PRESETS and a U R IN folder.
Those are both sets, in them there should be an AUDIO folder which is where all the sets samples are stored, and various projects which have been saved.

The method to load your project would be to change sets to “U R IN” and then load a project from the set.
The samples should be in /U R IN/AUDIO, if they are not for some reason adding them there should work.

If the set is mounted, an audio folder exists in it with the right samples, and a project is loaded from the set, it should just work…

Let us no if you don’t have a /UR IN/AUDIO folder, or if it has no samples in it, or anything else that’s weird.

So I made a test :
I have a SET 1, made a new SET2, created a project, copied an audio file in SET2/AUDIO folder.
Little sequence.

Then I copied the project in my SET1, copied the audio file in SET1/AUDIO, the project works.
The audio files have to be at the same relative place.

Yes, you must have an AUDIO folder in U R IN, it’s created when creating a SET.

For information, audio files are recorded in AUDIO folder but you can also choose to record them in the Project Folder, which I prefer. (Menu Personalize).

Alright all this info has helped me a lot and right now I’m transferring back my sample folder (because I put it into my preset folder because I couldn’t access it before). I already started making songs in the new Set so I need to copy and paste my sample folder so it’s in both sets.

The folder is about 4 gigs but it’s going to take about 40 minutes it’s saying to transfer it : S So I’ll tell you after how it all worked out *fingers crossed because I have some songs I would be sad to lose

Thanks so much for having patience with me and helping, it’s really appreciated :slight_smile: !

Yep, you want:
/U R IN/AUDIO/all of your samples

/PRESETS should be its own thing and nothing your accessing should be in it…
Forget about it for now…

Your projects should exist in /UR IN/, same place as the audio folder.

After transferring samples, mount set “UR IN” and then load project…
Fingers crossed it should work!
