Tracks and vids using ONLY the Octatrack

Friends at the forum,

Anyone has any links or other resources to tracks, videos or whatever that use only the Octatrack as an instrument? Doesn’t matter what’s in it and how it got there, but when whoever is performing, it’s Octatrack only.

I’m working on getting to that point myself, being as clever as I can about using Octatrack as a live instrument, and it’s inspiring to see how others do it.

Even if you’re working with other gear live, feeding audio into the Octatrack, it’s by definition cheating in this particular thread.

So - Octatrack only. Like this:

Anyone has any more examples of this kind?

I made this whole EP with just the OT alone:

Also available as a YouTube playlist if you prefer:

old stuff and a bit obscure vid, but it was a fun way to use the octatrack, half sequenced, half triggering live:

jamrod, your sound is gold! a good sound to start a day.

Thanks, great stuff! Much obliged.

Jamrod, how did you master your EP? What did your sound pass through after it left the Octatrack? I started a thread that discusses that topic and I saw your post on that thread.

More specifically, how did you go about mixing this?

I realised i must make some more OT only tracks…

I actually had Tarekith (former member here) master the EP. At the time, I didn’t have a great monitoring setup. In retrospect I should have bought better speakers earlier – once I did, I realized ways that I had been creating bass sounds that didn’t really translate. Anway, he did a good mastering job, but a pretty spare one; the results weren’t all that different from what I sent over.
For recording, I had a tiny bit of Eventide Space reverb on some of the tracks. And I think I just recorded directly into an Echo Audiofire 12 interface - nothing fancy.
For mixing, it was just a process of getting levels right on the OT. I didn’t multitrack anything, as I wanted to get it right on the box itself and be able to play it live and have it sound the same.

One of my favourites !

And the amazingly weird Granddaddy Dirtbox, of course:

Jamrod,

Thanks. Your stuff sounds great. Very helpful and inspiring at the same time.

I can vouch for Tarekith! He’s not a “former” member btw, but he did sell his own OT a few months ago.

Well, he did post a goodbye post, so I thought it was fair to call him a former member.
But yes, good guy and good for mastering!

that’s sweet, really, really nice work.
looking forward to my octatrack arriving even more after watching that
