I’m at the stage where I want to start tracking the AR in Logic Pro (so I can get the right mix as well as add some additional instruments to the arrangement). I’ve encountered a problem, however: I have a great sounding mix coming out of my AR, but when I record the individual outputs, I’m left without any effects on any respective track (by design, come to find out).
I’ve been toying with the best compromise to have a little control over at least some of the tracks, but I’m curious about how other people are handling mixing-down into Logic. Individual outputs? Or just recording the stereo mix?
In your Rytm’s Track Routing… If you route everything to FX (12/12), but route nothing to main (0/12), then you can record the L/R stereo outs as an FX track for the sounds that are using the FX sends.
This prevents the voices from going through the main stereo outs, but the FX still will.
You’ll be recording up to 10 tracks that way (8 voices plus 2 stereo fx “returns”)
Great tip/idea, thank you!
I do the same thing Adam dose However i also send the drums to the main outs. that way i get the distortion and compressor FX in their as well, it makes it like a NY style compression which is great for drums. I do have to Eq some bass Frequency’s out of main out so to not make the mix to muddy.
Also I set this up per kit so some things might not go through the main out like if i want to heavy distortion on kick but I don’t want to distort the high hats, so i wont send the high hats to the main out.
