Earlier this year I did a free re-release of the 8-bit Amiga sample pack I made and sold in the early 90s. As part of this I also did a quick rave demo tune entirely made on the Octatrack:

This is by no means the most impressive demo of what you can do with the OT only, but maybe still of interest considering that the source material consisted entirely of 8-bit audio files sampled at a rate of only 16 kHz.
Hey wise guy. The thread was about creating something new as part of a community challenge that just posting up stuff. Trying to shift sentiment toward creation than Internet Trolling.
That would’ve been laudable if you hadn’t then contradicted yourself with name calling, there’s clearly a valid difference of opinion from a number of parties, there is such a thing as constructive criticism, my posts speak for themselves (they certainly don’t get pulled btw) so instead of being contrite you get with the name calling again. If you want the tone to change then tone it down yourself, go figure. I’ve no issue with you, but quit badging people, as a constructive critic I do my bit as I see fit, as we all can and should freely. It’s possible to like these boxes and Elektron (a lot) and to be critical. Good luck with the positive endeavour, I’ve said too much anyway, enjoy, peace
Sorry, but I really don’t understand where you’re coming from. All I was suggesting was pushing the forum back into a more creative direction. Why? Because there’s a lot of hate flying round. Am I generalising, yes. Am I commenting on recent activity, yes. Am I specifically name calling, of course not.
I don’t understand your wise cracking hashtags which are clearly aimed at rubbing me up the wrong way. If you do that then expect a response from me.
Apologies to the others who might have wanted to make this into something creative and productive, it’s clear this thread is closed before it’s even begun.
That’s magnanimous (or misguided) of you. You start something good, but still have a dig at people, it’s just a stirring way to try to do something, why refer to haters, what does that achieve, who were you excluding, certainly not me, but I resent the implication that critique is hate. You’ve then gone on to reveal yourself as antagonistic in this thread and keep with the jibes?! No reference from Mr positive “5 posts in” or you about the more pointed remark, also calling you out on using the term ‘haters’ rather hypocritically, that appeared 3 posts in. And to be honest, you crossed the line on another thread, that ended up with someone doing the right thing getting called a douche (by someone else) in a gangland rules witch-hunt. Start a new thread, give it a focus, but seriously, read what you write and think it through, it’s not consistent, I’ve attempted to be moderate about something which irked me too, but I too resent any implication that critique= hate
Let’s agree to disagree, I should’ve bit my tongue, but you invite this on yourself, so don’t go pointing fingers when it collapses around you. Start a new thread or get a mod to delete all this toss and edit your post, bite your own tongue !
Bitching almost always invites bitching. If you want to start something positive, then it works better to not refer back to anything negative that might have happened before.
FWIW, a challenge or competition can be a lot of fun. I’ve found that it works best to keep the rules simple and choose a clear goal so that people have a sense of what to work towards. Take a look on the Mutable Instruments forum if you’d like to see a few examples of how this can work.
Right, let’s start it all over. The forum has been a bit miserable of late and many of us miss the old OT challenges. In line with the OP sentiments, lets bring them back for a bit of fun and awe at peoples skill (or, in my case, lack of).
Plenty of forum space for negativity (negativity from both sides of the coin may I add) so why not try and keep things more creative and encourage folks to try something new.
I was utterly torture at all of the old OT challenges but I tried them. They helped quite a bit with my OT understanding and hearding some of the forum base’s efforts were very inspiring.
I think I finally figured out what’s wrong with this forum: Images don’t show up big enough so it’s too hard to cheer people up! ELEKTRON ARE YOU LISTENING??? PLEASE MAKE THE IMAGES BIGGER NOW YES THANK YOU!!!
I’m not sure which thread you’re referring to re: the douche thing or the thread that got deleted. In general I try and help when I know stuff… ask questions when I don’t… offer thoughts (both good and bad and hopefully constructive) on the products themselves and that’s about it.
But anyways, like JOn35y said in a better way than myself (thanks JOn35y) it would be cool to bring back those things from the old forum and have some fun using the machine.
goddamnit … sometimes it takes me 5 minutes until i can respond to a topic…
the answer box opens up and everything freezes …
than (as you can see in my last post) the quotiaion disappears …
so; no to the main part:
