Tough routing choices

I am wiring my newly arrived AR into my existing setup, and the way I work everything has to be essentially hard wired into my audio interface which only has six remaining inputs, at least until Overbridge is released assuming Overbridge would work in conjunction with my existing audio interface.
The tough choice I have to make for now is which individual outputs to make available for external processing. Obviously I need a stereo pair for the master outputs of the AR which leaves 4 inputs available on my interface.

My first thought before receiving the AR and thinking in terms of using the outputs paired was to tap BD/SD so I could use external compression or trigger side chain compression with the kick, Snare also seems like a good one in terms of adding fx tails for surround mix purposes etc. Then I was thinking MT/HT as being good sources for adding fx and for surround placement.

I realize now I don’t need to necessarily use the outputs in pairs, I could tap individual outputs which makes things almost harder to decide. After playing with the AR a bit, I see the bass tom as being a good source for basslines which would be nice to process separately.
also the CY/CB seems to have some nice possibilities for more musical synthesis.

I guess what I’m asking is what anyone else more experienced with the AR would choose to have available as dedicated outputs and why?
Also in the scope of this decision is that I am mixing in surround so I want to choose some voices that would be most useful in this regard. Thoughts?

Ahh well, never mind then… Guess I’ll just go with my own mojo on this one and hopefully make the best choices for my particular setup.

Why would you need the stereo out of the rtym if you wanted to separate the voices?
If you have 6 inputs left maybe give them each a voice. I had just recieved my rtym so I’m in the same situation you are( actually just bought the wrong y cable today, got a stereo male to 2 stereo females, i hope radioshack takes back opened items!)

I want the voices “available” as individual outputs for specific circumstances, but also I want the option to submix internally as well as to have use of the internal FX.

for what it’s worth:
if you use a mono TS cable (guitar cable), and don’t plug it into the individual out jacks all the way, you can get both instruments from that output mixed on one mono signal.

This is interesting. My first concern is wouldn’t that also sum the stereo imaging of the instruments in the main mix and send both when one is sent to the FX?

Hey guys. So, basic question regarding cables.

Rytm has those jointed outputs. Some of them seem to have up to 4 sounds on one jack (for example MT/HT/CH/OH).

What cables do you use to connect these into a audio interface (I use MOTU ultralite)? Does one stereo jack receive all those 4 channels when plugged into Rytm?

I would like to have each sound source separately recorded into a separate channel or at least Left or Right side of one channel.

The four track output is esentially two channels as the two toms share a voice and the two hihats share a voice.

I use a stereo 1/4" trs from the ar which splits into two mono trs.

Thanks. So there is no way to divide two hihats from each other on a cable. It would require muting one hihat and then other way around.

Because they share a voice, if one trigs the other cannot trig. One only plays at a time.

Fair enough. It should be a software update thing so you can maybe switch effects and route them to separate outs.
