Yes, some of the combinations with Clear in Performance were nice, learned a few combos from that video. This machine will keep me entertain long after I am gone. On the other hand the T1 looked like unwanted child there. Was the firmware on T1 tuned for longevity of the device, what’s the state of it?
I’ve started a collaboration with a friend whom is a great guitarist. He had a lot of unfinished songs which he doesn’t know what to do with. So he has started uploading stems from them to the cloud so that i can fool around with them a bit.
Here are two examples of my using the stems on the S4. The basis are two loops one of which is just some simple chords on an electric guitar and a bass loop. The audio recoding is just playing through the loop then I mute different tracks to show what each track does and lastly I change to another scene where I modulated the sample start and end.
This second recoding is of different stems where the S-4 plays the stems and the OP-XY plays drums and chords (I’m live playing the chords, so they are a bit hit and miss) the cool thing here is that I’ve separated the audio of the drums and the chords and send the drum track into S-4 for modulation, the stuttering rate from mosaic (among other things) is being directly modulated by the drums.
I think this is gonna be a really fun collaboration.

I ran an MPC Live 2 > ERM Multiclock > S4 yesterday and tried just two DISC loops and noticed the same thing. Did you manage to fix this?
Does the S4 prefer to be the clock source?
i haven’t tried that combo, but i have found i need s4 to be the master for decent sync - otherwise same deal; BPM in unstable and clicks
Uh-Oh. I’m very close to purchasing an S4, but…
Using the S4 as the master is not really an option for me. Does anyone know how it responds to analog sync in?
Or using something like a Nome 2?

It’s not great, jitter affects sample looping points causing clicks, can also start out of phase. It really needs to be the master clock source. It’s something Torso are working on currently. Can’t come soon enough.

Very tight, but unfortunately too tight: every minor fluctuation in the incoming tempo seems to adapt the sample length or time-stretching in real time, depending on the settings. This would be excellent for a drum machine or sequencer, but it is less desirable when working with longer loops.
When syncing to an external clock, the recorded sample may be intended to be, for example, four bars at 127 BPM, but end up being four bars at 126.8 or 127.1 BPM, depending on the tempo detected when recording begins. Manually adjusting the decimal value of the recorded sample results in a corresponding increase or decrease in the sample-loop length.
I have already submitted a feature request for a future update to address this, perhaps by adding some slew or smoothing to the clock

My main device is an MPCxl and it also really needs to be the master clock. Are there any workarounds at all to avoid the skips, glitches etc?

My workaround is receive external midi start/stop and disable recieve external clock and just dial in the same tempo as the other gear in the setup.

I forgot to mention Torso team replied and told me to be working on a solution and we could expect a fix in a near future update.

OXI ONE into S4 with MIDI clock works for me ATM but I don’t loop stuff, I just use it for external processing and triggering one-shots. With loops I have the problem described here, BPM detection ranging from +/- 0.1 BPM which creates lots of clicking.
For anyone in the US, I just got a Torso S4 bundle (with the decksaver style cover and case) for 899 from Noise Bug as they have a 10% discount for labor day.

I partook of that deal as well and have been surprised no one had mentioned it here or on any other sites I frequent. I wondered if that was due to seemingly perennial issues with this fascinating instrument or the level of grim worldwide distraction.
But I did look here, in the Deals thread, on Lines, Gearspace, etc. Brut_zero’s is the first post about it I’ve seen.
The maddening thing for me right now is not MIDI, sync or any performance issue. All of that seems to be working fine.
My problem is my inability to download the latest firmware using Safari or Chrome on an M4 Pro Mac Mini.
The 244 MB download always stops precisely at 240.2 MB and no adjustment of the settings or terminal command seems to help. I’m currently on Sequoia 15.7.9 and wasted an hour and a half trying to obtain the zip file that would allow me to update my S-4. I’ve never had this issue downloading anything else.
