Do we need a Polymarket bet if Torso will fix it or not?
In what situations is the main encoder jumping? Is it only on sample select and when naming samples and projects?
All of them. You need to twist sometimes 7 times to scroll one word of naming project, or 10 times, itās totally random.
I do just that and my unit works fine
They should solve the midi timing, too much drifting aroundā¦
Hahahaha pleeeaaase yes !
Also got the white and the encoder is OK but not great (definitely not for the price).
It mostly registers one click at a time but then it jumps occasionally and register two moves in the list for one click and then you can nudge it back and forth without clicks to also register a move back and forth in the list.
A little puzzling they do not replace it if it is poor quality or spend some time to refine the debouncing as it is giving it a bad first impression.
That they spent the time to create a different colour variation (and thus making a manufacturing update) without addressing it is kind of bonkers.
The white is very cool though Iām gassing for it.
Itās a marketing stunt to increase sales, I donāt think it took too much time to design the white version
Not to design it, but it would have required factory changes, equipment purchasing, etc etc.
back to this thread and see still hardware issues, totally unac. I had the S-4 for a short moment in the beginning but left it back due to quality issues, reading this one year later still people having problems
That is a little much.
They should address it but it obviously has other qualities and it is a very interesting device.
should Torso still exist ?!? yes, definitely⦠along with any other company having issue! btw anyone knows a product without issues? 100 pieces sold and there is no one complaining with one unit at least no matter it is a car, phone or synth ?!?
someone above was giving an example of an echo chamber - that a small group of unsatisfied users could blown out an issue that is happening only on their devices, and that is not the case for the rest of the people, who are really enjoying it. also those
unsatisfied users probably donāt even own the s4ā¦
Torso are aware of the problem and they will tell more about it when they are sure and know how to proceed. I canāt imagine they are promising something and then deviate as it can lead to huge disappointment.
so letās not ask if this company still exists, but be patience on the matter while they are resolving it, cause for any unsatisfied customer there is 30 days money back guaranteeā¦
Yeah, Iāve had other hardware that demonstrate this too (mainly in Eurorack). Itās frustrating as if youāre going to have a stepped encoder then it has to be accurate and 1:1 otherwise why use one in the first place. Which is why the stepped encoders on the T1 both make sense and are fundamental in how the device works. No corner cutting allowed.
For the S4, thereās no reason why that encoder needs to be a stepped one.
I just had a play with mine and yes, if I turn the encoder very slowly then the value changes before the stepped click, but when the stepped click does engage the value does not jump up again. So for me itās 1:1. Also, when using it to go through letters when saving or sample file system, 1 click does indeed equal 1 value.
When adjusting tempo however it seems to jump around a bit more. I assume that is a software thing to enable quickly getting from say 90bpm to 180bpm.
Mineās a first batch model so maybe the 1st batch were better?
Another weird sound exploration with the detestable S4ā¦
but you would think that a first batch is always the worst, and things are addressed along with the manufacturing getting better and better at fine tuning issues here and there.
a first batch could be better if they have changed manufacturer at a later stage
Youād think so yup
Iām very satisfied with the device, but the encoder problem should be addressed many months ago. I donāt think someone who complains about their encoder donāt own the device.
Itās my third device after the two previous broke. And there is no fix at the moment as far as I know unless a new unit.
This is not a light issue. This is a serious issue that damage the reputation of the company. Good for you if you have a good unit, but itās the second time here that someone blames the users to speak about a problem that shouldnāt exist.
You people know that if this problem would happen to you, you would be the first writing it here. Months have passed and we afaik donāt still know anything about the encoder problem.
People with this problem, donāt talk about it. You can disturb the peace of this thread.
I do not see that it is only users speaking of this.
I think it is a mix of users, previous users, potential users, bad faith actors, man-babies, etc, and some, I assume, are good peopleā¦
I do not have a broken one and if I did I would get it fixed or return it and move on.
I suspect theyāre using Bourns PEC11R-4215F-S0024 encoder (there arenāt that many 24PPR encoders with push switches out there), which are rated for 30K rotations (yeah⦠thatās bad).
Itās a lot of fun to turn a nice drumloop into a crazy freaked out pile of s#!+. ![]()
