I’m looking for thoughts from anyone on my use case too.
Your comment on that thread piqued my interest into actually looking further into the S-4, which I thought was more like a zoia with granular ish tendencies at first.
But it’s looking like a great glue box to smash together and collage some of my other gear.
The S-4 seems like an amazing device for creating and effecting sounds, that much is a given but I’m curious how it can hang as a sort of tape recorder / looper and bare bones arranger. Especially with the new update.
My core kit is Oberheim TEO, Erica Perkons (providing a sequenced backbone when needed, or drone stuff) and random guitar stuff. I play all of these in live and do a lot of on the fly knob twiddlin with overdubs.
I’m just so over groovebox samplers. They force me into production mode, and my DAW will beat them at that any day of the week.
In addition to being an idea / spark generator of its own, I’m hoping the torso could be smooth enough to grab some happening experiments from the Perkons / TEO and layer additional overdubs on top. Then maybe blur it into something I record or perform into the DAW if needed.
I liked the OP-1F for this though it wasn’t always the best workflow. I’m RTFM on S-4 but some real world accounts for this kind of usage (especially with the tape loop machine) would be sick.
