Hi -
A friend came into town this week and wanted to jam, so I decided to use the opportunity to do a very low key 3 hour set at my sister’s art studio / store. There were just random customers in and out, but we definitely felt the pressure to not be annoying and shitty, which for me is what separates playing live from jamming at home.
So my buddy jammed on Ableton/Push and I ran his stuff into a thru track and a flex track separated by scenes. I would, from time to time grab a 2 bar sample of what he was doing and re-sequence slices of it. On my side I had the same setup, but instead of Live/Push I was using my Analog Keys, Tempest, and Rytm. I used the three free tracks on the OT for some extra misc percussion.
Despite it being a store in the suburbs, and only random customers wandering in and out (we didn’t tell anyone about it!) it was still super fun and I definitely want to do this again.
There were even moments where I kinda felt…cool.
I never stop re-discovering how awesome the OT is, it really brought things together well. It was kind of like the common element that blended what my friend was doing in Live with what I was doing on the hardware. The OT is great for fills, variations, transitions, etc.
I was also pretty proud of my little Tempest. It gets so much shit, but I feel it was the hub of my creativity and a great place to go for initial inspiration.
