So, I was only partly right. It WAS taking ages to load up the list of Multi instruments but after adding approximately 100gig of samples into the user (single samples) folder. I could still see the multi instruments I’d added but none of the factory content multis. I then added the factory content multis to my user ones - now I see them. However the subtrack kits are MIA. They were there before I added the 100gig of samples but not there after. I then tried copying them from factory content (duplicating - so also leaving them in the factory folder) to the user section (under kits) but they still haven’t shown up. So if I choose a Subtrack machine I only have the option to ‘create’. At this point I don’t care as I now have access to all my user single samples and all factory and user multis - but there is definitely an issue here relating to where TV is looking for the samples on the card. Thanks again for being an ear - sometimes that’s all it takes to stop you going mental ![]()
Maybe you’ve found another data limit of the device. like a 250gb limit, or a 100gb limit or something.
You should test this further. Also check the bugs thread for mention of it. Tonverk: bug reports - #1019 by freeze_etch
That is a very good point / possible reason. Good thinking. I’ve still got the case open with Elektron so if I can summarise it in a way they’ll understand maybe they’ll confirm this is the reason. Until then I will slowly delete samples in 10 gig increments and keep firing up the device to see if the kits suddenly appear. If they do I’ll let you know. Thanks again mate
Last one - I’m boring myself at this point.
There is nothing wrong with where TV is looking for samples. As far as I know there is no upper ceiling of samples but these are now the facts. With around 150gig of samples on the memory card it takes around 3 seconds for the single shot samples to load, 10-12 seconds for the multi sampled instruments to appear and………dah dah da dahhhhh 26 mins for the drum kits to appear. I’ve timed it multiple times and verified on a second TV. It’s just taking ages to read the card. I still love it - it’s the most fun box I’ve used.
that’s crazy. I can’t test on my end, as I only have 64gb cards. I wonder if that behavior is across all units, or if yours has some weird thing going on.
This is actually my second TV as I had an unrelated issue and I had the first unit swapped out. I was able to check and it was the same on both. Hopefully they sort out the loading times with some OS upgrade. Take it easy mate, thanks for listening
Hi There,
Is there a way to better organize the user folder on the SD card for Tonverk?
It seems like you cannot have nested folder in User/Multisampled such as BASS, PAD, SYNTH etc for each category and then browse those.
Likewise for single samples, is it not possible to have nested folders to organize your one shots?
Arguably about the same amount of button pushes, or less, to just use the built in tagging system?
While true, I guess it would be easier on computer to organize all the files by dragging and dropping etc vs tagging 100+ entries.
I cannot find this info in the manual - have any owners edited the folder structure on the user folder directory of the SD card?
Last night I dropped a sample pack straight into the user folder. Lots of samples buried in subfolders, so yeah that works.
I don’t think sub folders are currently supported with multisampled instruments though - that machine takes you directly to that folder right? So there isn’t even an option to browse for other emultis. Not in front of my unit to check though. I guess you could make presets from emultis but then you’d lose the preview functionality there
Yea I want to organize my multisampled instruments and subtrack instruments.
I guess you mean subfolders work in the user/single samples folder?
Folder management needs improvement I guess
I made a folder in users/ called ‘sample packs’ and copied the sample pack into that.
I’ve started to use the source name and patch type as a prefix for multisamples
eg, artemis_pad_patchname. Saves some headaches but totally agree that more file management options would be ace
How does your issue stand today? Still having issues?
It was all stemming from a lack of understanding of the full time it takes to read the memory card. I haven’t found some arbitrary upper limit for samples etc - It just takes longer than you’d think to read it all. However, this doesn’t impact me at all. Still the best machine I’ve ever used. ![]()
Rad. Still, your plight made me opt for a 256gb card insteasd of the 512 I had sitting in my cart.
Well, your issue combined with the fact I think 256 is probably a more reasonable limit if the Tonverk indexes the contents at power-up (not 100% sure it indexes the whole SD card, or whether it’s just indexing the project, but I can always buy a 512 if I hit the roof of my 256, plus it saved me money).
p.s. I get the indexing time is based on number of files, not file size, but a 512 will likely have a larger absolute value of samples by a larger margin, so slower loading regardless.
It definitely indexes the entire card and It’s almost a certainty that the smaller card (less samples) will cut the time down. The time doesn’t bother me so I’ll stick with what I’ve got but if it did I’d scale down to a smaller card too. The one you bought will be more than enough. I’m just a bit of a horder and always put too many samples on there. It’s stupid really but I’ll never change. Good luck mate
Hi,
I’m interested about a full listing Sd Card Structure. I recieved mine, second hand with the same problem than Sacred Heart Attack.
Best

Salut @TomRobinTomRobin !
What is your issue ? (English forum)
This is the post he was alluding to. It’s one above the post he replied to:
I’m curious how people out there approach organizing their files on their cards.
The manual has this to say about user content:
We recommended that you save and add content only to the USER folder on the SD card. This folder also contains the default destinations for saving projects, presets, samples, and instruments.
If you delete or move samples (or a folder containing samples) on the SD card, it will affect all projects that use the deleted or moved samples, and the samples will be missing from these projects.
That means you have to get the structure right from the start, and can’t move things around, until we get “collect to project”.
In my USER folder, these directories already exist:
User
├---- Drum Sets
├---- Multi-sampled Instruments
├---- Presets
├---- Projects
└---- Single Samples
These are the “default destinations” for saving stuff mentioned in the manual, correct?
So any additional folders I add in the USER folder for storing content will be fine, as long as I don’t touch these?
And has anyone experimented with using folders outside the USER folder?
